Anyone else catch Seymour stating on Breakfast this morning that we don’t need a new tax because the government has more money than most?

The same government that tells us it has no money for anything that isn’t a road. 🤦‍♂️ #nzpol

Cartoon. Title: “Job Seeee-e-e-e” Image shows PM Christopher Luxon at the open hatch of a small plane, high above farmland. He’s leaning out, and holding up a parachute pack, labelled “Job Seeker” He’s calling out to someone falling from the plane, “And I’ve kept your parachute because you kids from low-income homes need some motivation” Then he adds, “Don’t let that disability slow you down!”

Govt to cut #JobSeeker benefit for 18 & 19 year olds who’s parents earn over $65,000, even if the teens have a disability or health condition. With #CostOfLiving & the job shortage they’re cranking up stress levels to 11, all to meet a target.

In the UK, the clueless Tory Govt tried to cut spending from 2011 to reduce debt. That backfired - economists often miss that Govt spending adds to the tax base. This created the conditions for the rise of the far right. But, that's another story (it's where we're heading) . (Ends)

Successful social housing and good design.

Wish this government would be inspired by how well Kainga Ora and architects can do when enabled.

236 flats replacing 50 houses.

We need more of this.

Guess the alternatives are:
Look after your immunity (also hard in a cost-of-living crisis)
Don't get cancer.
Know and recognise the signs of shingles and see Dr immediately for antivirals if you get it?

Luxon Govt stopped or blocked four key structural projects which would reduce fossil gas dependence: NZ Battery Project, Gas Transition Plan, Govt Investment in Decarbonising Industry, and Offshore Wind.

"NZ's recession has so far claimed 27,000 jobs over the past 12 months. Although this doesn't tell the full story; total job hours have actually shrunk further. If you factor in how many part-time jobs have replaces full-time equivalents (FTE), it actually equates to a total FTE work reduction of 74,000 jobs. And that starts to sound more grim"

A graph is included showing this.

Local elections in NZ are a democratic mess. 78 councils, no central info, run by private companies.

Yip, one of the best places to shop. I'm a fan of Yogiji's in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Go to for pulses, vege, rice and spices.

We also shop at Piko, Bin Inn, and a big vege store (Growers Market usually).

Avoid the big supermarkets as much as we can.

A post in a Hornby community facebook page that reads “URGENT HELP NEEDED As of Friday, a lovely local family with three young children (including a baby) became homeless. The lease on their previous rental was up and it would not be extended further due to "family moving into the rental." They had applied for many rentals leading up to Friday but have had no success. They have been advised by MSD they do not qualify for emergency housing support as they are over the threshold by $40.00!! We have managed to get them very, temporary accommodation until Monday but they are desperately seeking a rental immediately preferably in the Hornby or surrounding suburbs. They would prefer 3 bedrooms but are open to anything. They can afford up to approx. $650 and have references available. The male is in full time work in the Hornby area. If you know of any rentals that are available, please private message me on Facebook Messenger or text me on 027 etc”

Five people a day become homeless in Ōtautahi. It can happen to anyone. It can happen to you.

Case in point. Employed full time, can afford $650 a week in rent, still ends up homeless.

Our social contract is broken.

On target criticisms by a former National Party MP and current journalist.

Luxon silences and deflects. That's his style.

IMHO it's like Peters' style of flamboyant attack, and Seymour's as deliberately inflammable. None of them act in good faith, or as people who would put Aotearoa first.
