Great turnout at my ‘Jesus, Justice & Empire’ talk hosted by King’s University in Edmonton last night. We had 100+ local church leaders, students, faculty & practitioners.

So inspired by these Jesus-centered folks quietly and faithfully resisting Empire in the heart of Alberta.

Did you know that Lent and Ramadan start on the same day this year?

Apparently, this is an alignment that only happens between the Christian and Muslim calendars approximately once every 33 years.

Let the reader understand.

A senior academic recently described me at an event as, “the Richard Rohr of the 21st century” and that is easily one of the kindest things anyone has ever said about me. 😭

If you’ve ever been called a heretic for loving Jesus and justice for all of our neighbours who are made poor & oppressed by Empire, know this:

The heretics of Empire are the beloved of God.

My journey into the priesthood has been one of lovingly offering critique to the ways in which the Church has failed to love God by loving neighbour. Pray for me (also a sinner) to steward this privilege well.

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

This is what happens when you worship the colonizer-shaped, capitalistic idol of success over the Jesus-shaped ideal of faithful presence.

The Gospel Coalition’s Review of Jesus’ interaction with The Rich Young Ruler:

“The Rich Young Ruler leaves Jesus as disinterested in Christianity as he was at the start. What he sees from Jesus is not compelling. It’s woke, corrupted, audience-pleasing justice Christianity, not true Christianity.”

Americans are weird man. 🤣

PS: Totally get the desire to process grief and brokenness on earth before the celebrations of Christmas commence.

This is also why the liturgical calendar of the vast majority of the Global Church has 4 weeks of Advent right before the 12 days of Christmas. 😊
