"If they paid attention everyone would like this" isn't really how art works! It's OK to like something because you like it, not because it's objectively good.

I have become fully jokerified on the issue of reminding people on the internet that art is subjective. Stop saying films/shows/bands etc are “overrated,” just say you don’t like them! Or they’re not for you! Is that film “bad” or did you just not enjoy it?

The really impressive thing is that I made it this long without popping a blood vessel in my eye.

I just finished reading a book by an author (not an internet name) whose stuff I binged circa 2012, and god it’s nice to read something that feels so far removed from the discourse of how smart/cultured/“right” I might be because of the fraction of my life that is represented by my enjoying a book.

every day i see hundreds of comments of people spinning elaborate scenarios to explain how trump can control everything and all opposition is futile. a) i think a lot of you need to log off and stop following professional doomsayers. b) i think a lot of you are cowards

Twitter was never a very good platform for debate or persuasion even before it became a Nazi roachpit. Brief text snippets are terrible for conveying nuance and the public platform means it's hard to find common ground. It's always been a watercooler for people you generally agree with.

It took me an extremely long time to learn that you can still plan and execute an excellent event while not overcomplicating things, and planning an event with people 10 years your junior who haven’t realized this is a special form of hell.

The feeling induced by the slightest hint that you’ve purposely been excluded from something with your friends (even though you almost certainly haven’t!) not long after having a Rough Time about another friendship is akin to being chased by a bear. One that shouts your flaws out as it chases you.

More broadly, this toxic fandom shit of meanness, imploding your relationships with people who have always been kind to you, and then bragging about how you're so much better than everyone because you can type some mean words on the internet is absurd and should stay on Twitter where it belongs.

I can't say l've never done this, but I can say I do actually make a pretty strong effort not to shit on other fic writers, and anyone who has talked to me for more than 10 minutes knows this.

I'm not perfect; every one of us has been in a situation in which (for approval, to try to regulate emotions, or due to some insecurity) we've said something uncharitable or unkind that we then feel kind of gross about later.

Thanks to my excessive muting, I'm just now seeing that someone tried to pull me into some BlueSky beef. To clarify, there's a big difference between a private convo in which you share that an author isn't for you, and a larger, public conversation piling on to an author or authors.
