A one man home based design and digital fabrication lab, that is trying to build a better world for human and robot kind. I work on items related to Science Olympiad, robotics, extreme environment gardening, python, ESRI GIS, and general maker things.

Parallax Rhino - Robot Tour (2026 Science Olympiad) by CordovaLabs | Download free STL model | Printables.com

I just released my first new #Science #Olympiad design since early 2020. It's a set of parts to modify a #Parallax robot kit so it is better suited to compete in the 2026 #RobotTour event.

Hopefully, I will have time to finish up a few more designs this week.

Thanks to @joeltelling.bsky.social and @printedsolid.bsky.social for 4 kgs of Jessie PLA from the Seattle Children's Hospital charity stream. These are my first spools of Jessie #PLA and the colors look amazing. Cannot wait to get them on my printer and #make some new prototypes and gifts.

This year my Butternut Squash and Swiss Chard were the drama queens. I expected it from the squash, but I never seen chard get all uppity like this year crop. Now that it is back to being cool the chard is exploding and I am looking forward to getting some.

It happens with a lot of things. I can't tell you how many weird edge cases I have found writing work process documentation which should be as easy as push button and a wait 10 sec as the equipment boots. And they all turn into at least another page of "If this, try this" notes.

On planting day, thirty something peppers and egg plants in a raised garden bed. Additionally, a collection of pest repealing plants such as basil, dill, and French marigolds mixed in. The garden bed has a set of EMT conduit hoops with hail netting over it.

After the spring thunder-boomer (aka Thunderstorm), most of the plants have taken some damage from hail. Even with hail netting over the majority of the raised bed the storm blew the hail in and around the netting (which did not extend to the soil on the hoops). Most of the damage is on the left side of the photo with eggplants, Shishito pepper, and early jalapenos taking most of the heavy damage. A few plants look marginal but I expect the majority to survive.

Well I guess it's time to reevaluate my hail netting setup. We got a spring hailer last night that basically wiped out almost 2 weeks of growth off the plants (and possibly killled a few). My guess is the netting was too high up to fully protect from wind driven hail coming in sideways.

The first stormy night survived with only one Sungold tomato looking worse for wear. It was gusty (+40 mph) and rainy but almost no hail. So I will take the 4/10 of free rain water and keep punching out ASA clamps until I get the 14 I need to fully implement my plans. Tonight will be the real test.

With the rest of this week being filled with #severeweather I am hoping my freshly transplanted #communitygarden plots survive. I am trying to protect the Night Shade Forest (peppers and eggplants) with hoops and hail netting. Hopefully the temp PLA #3dprint clamps hold until the ASA ones are ready.

But if it doesn't come out of the printer looking like an injection molded part, then it is literally unusable. /s

I think that hobby printers have taken such a jump forward in the last few years, that people are looking for any little things to justify one printer being better than another.

I feel the current administration saw this South Park clip and decided it was the perfect way to determine tariffs.

Man, where did March go?

It's April and I haven't started my seeds for my garden yet. Every year I have these grand plans, and budgeting season at work always kills it.

Luckily my #AeroGarden can get me from seeds to transplantable plants in about 4 weeks, so I won't lose too many growing days.

Good luck to all the teams at the New Mexico State Science Olympiad Tournament. You have all put in many hours of work studying and/or building; and now you get a chance to test yourself against the best teams in the State. Best of luck again!

The only way to effectively mine $EGG today is with a H-3n cluster. But getting the seed money is what is the real killer.

Here is a clip of it running. Not speed up, and a meter stick is in the foreground if you want to time it yourself. For spending 45 mins on it, including the programming, it's not a half bad Electric Vehicle.

At Science Olympiad practice today, I got bored and built a test bed for the #GoBilda servos. It is mostly made of stuff laying around the classroom.

The "Super Speed" servos are giving me about 1.33 m/s using 120mm diameter wheels on ~6v. I think with 7.2v I can get up to 1.65 m/s. #scioly

Woot! Woot!

My high speed dual mode servos from goBilda will be here tomorrow. I am hoping this will help the Science Olympiad team get their Electric Vehicle working to a competitive level for State.

If not, I found some upgrades for their TT Motors that might help with their slow speed. #SciOly

You wouldn't download a City, would you?

I really like this print, you can even see the Zombie Tower.

Is the STL available anywhere, as it's been a while since I have made it up to the Emerald City and would love to have a little printout of the downtown as well.

I like this idea. Isn't going to stop the rest of the house from watching it, but foozballs the devil anyways. Working on some coding or CAD work I am behind on, sounds like much more fun. Might even sign up for the #ESRI Spatial Analysis #MOOC and get started on that.

I spent part of this week in #ESRI #Arcade training, and I have so many plans. I definitely need to read more on profiles as I am hitting some stumbling blocks with field calculator, and it's limited access to variables. Why can't I get $map or $layer? $datastore is super limiting for one off data.

That Thing-o-matic could use some love....

Fun Fact: The print head on the TOM is a MK7 extruder which was only available for a few months before the release of the Replicator and it's MK8. The MK7 is more or less the same as the MK8 besides for the voltage of the heater cartridge; 12v vs 24v.

It's the first weekend in February and that makes it time to start #garden planning. Seeds are ordered and now I am looking into new methods I can try out this year. A DIY #olla setup is high on my list of things try this year, along with the three sister method.

The Thing-o-matic was my first printer, and was my mobile printer until at least 2016. It's crazy how far we have come since the wooden printer era, and how magical those early printers truly were.

Ok that's freaking cool. I definitely will be adding this to my "things to print" STL folder.

My biggest complaint about the mini is how much room it takes up when fully set up with the provided spool holder.

Maybe not, but they have been a good force in a few cases. I know when the LTE spectrum sell was happening, they bid $1,234,567.89 for the spectrum that Version eventually won. As part of their bid they force/had the FCC add some "Open Network" requirements to the purchase.

I believe they removed "don't be evil" back around the time they became Alphabet. It's been all $$ since.

I am just moving over to Bluesky and I still have my shitter account as I haven't finished hunting for all the people I was following. As soon as I am done with that, I am yeeting all my accounts and never looking back.

The Prusa Mini is such a little tank of a printer, and I love using mine as my "on the go printer".

You planning on any mods or upgrades out of the box, or are you going to run it stock for a while?
