When I was at @umfordschool.bsky.social for my Master (also where @justinwolfers.bsky.social teaches), it felt like about half the students were international. Not only was it great for international students and US students both, but it clearly was great for US policy, economy and influence too.

Highly educated citizens from low-income and small countries often emigrate to seek opportunities elsewhere. @catiabatista.bsky.social, PSC's @deanyang.bsky.social et al review evidence supporting that, along with "brain drain" effects, indirect “brain gain” effects also benefit origin countries.
