I mean. In real time I thought it was offside because I thought Juan got a touch. I can see the ref making the same mistake in the moment at full speed. And Juan did affect the trajectory of the defenders as they recovered. Technically probly not offside but can’t be too mad about it

A good anti-Trump liberal took this perfectly true skeet and decided it was a racist attack on him personally and did that "not all whites" thing, then blocked me when I attempted to educate him a little. If you're curious about what white fragility looks like ...

Nobody is blaming only white folks. You are just projecting all sorts of attacks on you, personally, that are just not there.

02.10.2025 20:47 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Eh dictionaries are also written by white people. Most dictionaries would define racism as he does. You have to look at more sociological sources for the fuller, more useful definition.

Yes, it's more than just oppression: it's oppression based upon race. But oppression, or at least the power to oppress, is a necessary component.

02.10.2025 20:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

that's not to say it's your fault or my fault individually, but it does mean that you and I have some responsibility to fix it. To educate each other as I'm attempting to do with you, and to more broadly work to dismantle racist systems and support equitable ones.

... white people are the only demographic that voted in the majority for Trump in 2024. We still have the overwhelming majority of the votes in this country, such that even if the people of color who voted for him hadn't, he still would have won. We, as a collective, voted for this and ...

First of all, the "this" referred to in this reply isn't necessarily just the Trump administration. I think it's just more broadly systemic racism and everything that comes along with that. But also ...

Because discussion of race doesn't have to be hateful, or even tense! It can be respectful, loving, argumentative, whatever, but isn't always an attack.

You seem to think any mention of race is a racist attack and that's just silly.

02.10.2025 19:58 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Again, you're being unecessarily defensive. Mentioning a race isn't an ATTACK on that race.

"white people, if you think yada yada" is an engagement of white people. An invitation for us to think about something. Even a critique, maybe. But an attack? C'mon.

02.10.2025 19:54 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

also when you say "people are people," you're saying their race and ethnicity and whatnot don't matter. That's easy for us to say because we've convinced ourselves that we're the default. If people were ice cream we'd be vanilla.

But guess what, VANILLA IS ALSO A FLAVOR.

02.10.2025 19:51 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You said it way smarter than I did, thank you

02.10.2025 19:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

YOU AND I ARE NOT. White people as a group, however, do have that tendency. Even though you and I are allies and doing everything we can to pay attention and whatnot, the same cannot be said of our entire group.

02.10.2025 19:48 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

... then how would you describe the "certain group," if the defining characteristic that the members of that group have in common is their race?

02.10.2025 19:46 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Which gives me an idea for another example.

Cornish people love a pasty. It's like a handheld meat pie thing, for those who don't know.

That is a true statement.

The fact that my kids, who are also Cornish, don't particularly like them doesn't make that statement any less true.

Right?

02.10.2025 19:45 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

You can see a person as a person while also seeing them as the person they really are, which is to say, a man, or a woman, or a Black person, or (in my case) a Cornish person. My Cornish heritage is important to me; why would you want to ignore it?

02.10.2025 19:43 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Us white folks do have a hard time understanding the difference between "all" and "every." We've been taught that we are special individuals, which is true and great, but we are also members of any number of groups. It's valid to talk about those groups AS GROUPS.

02.10.2025 19:42 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Bringing up skin color is inherently racist? Do what now?

Are you one of those "I don't see color" people?

02.10.2025 19:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

because it contains the word "white" you got defensive and thought of it as an attack on YOU personally. It wasn't.

02.10.2025 19:37 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

First of all, sometimes that's true, but see lesson 2: All white people doesn't mean every white person.

Second, this post to which you replied is explicitly NOT talking about white people in general. It says white folks, IF you think this ...

That "if" limits it to a subset of white people, but
