The owner was left in the care of New West Animal Service who issued a fine as well as an order to take the dog to the veterinarian for an assessment. We are hoping that this incident was just a momentary lapse in judgement from a loving dog owner that wonβt be repeated.

It was in obvious medical distress. Sgt. McGuinness put his canine first aid training to use and contacted New Westminster Animal Services for help. When the owner finally arrived on scene, they were shocked at what had taken place and said how much they loved their dog and didnβt mean to hurt them.

Luckily, Sergeant Gord McGuinness, the head of the Transit Police K9 Unit, happened to be driving by and the concerned individual was able to flag him down. After failing to get a hold of the vehicleβs owner, Sgt. McGuiness was able to open the vehicle door and get to the dog.

Last weekend, a passerby noticed a dog locked in a vehicle that was parked in New Westminster. It was 22Β°C, but with the car in direct sunlight, the temperature inside was much higher. The dog was in obvious distress.
