Could a flat fold finish work? It's kind of an old-fashioned finish, but you don't need a lot of margin and the fraying doesn't matter because you glue down the excess. For this piece she has a 1/4 inch boundary and then maybe another inch on the back.

I bought the NAFO Cookbook because I saw it on Bluesky. I've checked out plenty from the library because I heard about them here. I'm even thinking of reading science fiction, which I despise, because I started following John Scalzi and maybe (???) since I like his posts I'd like his book.

Maybe sashiko thread? They have some variegated threads that I think are a lot more delicate and subtle than embroidery flosses. (of course I always get the flosses with names like Neon Rainbow so maybe I have a distorted idea of what's out there)

Maybe the owner wants to donate to Ukraine? I volunteer at a Ukrainian cultural museum and people sometimes wander in with a Ukrainian themed item in the hope we can sell it and send the money to Ukraine. I'd knock on their door and ask (assuming you want the book).
