Mass. is one of the world's top ed systems (highest test scores, graduation rates, resident's educational achievement). Globe's corporate funders need to make people doubt public education, to reduce its funding/lower their taxes, make citizens stupid, to allow them to keep taking all the wealth.

No parody. And seriously, if your only quoted educational "expert" is ultra-conservative AEI's Fred Hess (who does not have a background in assessment, but is just a shill for every corporate-backed education idea), then you're as poor at reporting as the Boston Herald.ππ www.aei.org/profile/fred...

Massachusetts students had the best AP exam scores in the country. But that needs crucial context. - The Boston Globe
Nearly 36 percent of public high school graduates last year scored a three or higher on an AP exam, the highest ever. But some of the tests have gotten easier.
Caught red handed! AP cut off scores changed! If Massachusetts was its own country, it would rank top in the world on those standardized tests that we love so much. But, always have to find some fake reason to demand more charter schools and less teachers unions. www.bostonglobe.com/2026/03/03/m...

Outgoing Secretary of Education Tutwiler leaves a lengthy list of unfinished business for his successor - The Boston Globe
New reading lessons, an MCAS replacement, and lower cost childcare must be addressed.
Enjoy our latest "news report" on the new Massachusetts Secretary of Education, which is just a laundry list of the neoliberal things our editorial board wants him to do. (Like how we stopped being a legitimate newspaper and now everything is an opinion blog?). www.bostonglobe.com/2026/02/11/m...

Oh yes, a virtual Pinkerton! (Quote from Scot Lehigh)
This brings back good memories of when this "union hating asshole" called himself "a virtual Pinkerton" in response to this parody account. He said it, not us! Read some real journalism on the topic (p.s. Teen Vogue has better education reporting than the Globe).π www.teenvogue.com/story/who-we...

In the No. 1 state for public education, this is one of the worst-performing school districts - The Boston Globe
Parents, teachers, and school officials have a lot to say about why.
Our attempt here at the Globe to pretend that we care about poor kids. Comes out during the Christmas season. π
πOur Editorial Board's education policy stances on the other 11 months shows you what we really care about (privatization, charters, closing schools). π www.bostonglobe.com/2025/12/10/m...

End with nonsense quotes from former Sec. of Ed. Paul Reville (guaranteed to always agree with Globe editorial board), a pro-charter former non-profit org leader, and a business lobbyist. Globe certainly knows how to use that tired old neoliberal education template flawlessly. π

Surprise surprise. These "reporters" conclude BPS should spend less on students. Why? They are the top major city district. Instead, they should spend more to make more equitable. But, they want to lower rich people's taxes (same people who pay to keep this second-rate paper alive).

Boston's Charter Schools in Crisis...Still
Back in February, I wrote about how several Boston charter schools were facing a crisis of declining enrollment. It seems the crisis has...
And, of course, they state that so many more students want to be in charter schools (but that is just some regular old Globe bullshit). There is a decline in students nationwide (and that decline may be even stepper in Boston charter schools). brendanhalpin.com/bostons-char...

No parody. Despite Globe reporters' opinions (or more likely editors' opinions), Boston already has the top major city school district in the country. But a reporter would know that if only they could access something like Google. Better instead say things like this instead...

Mass. teachers missed nearly 12 school days on average last year, data shows - The Boston Globe
School administrators missed more than 11 days on average.
Weird. Students, teachers, and administrators miss roughly the same number of days in a school year. We'll take what seems to be the needed annual days for illness/life events and make it into a fake story about how our education system sucks. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/20/m...

No parody. How out of touch is the Globe Editorial Board? Their solution for every educational problem is to do the same old tired punitive things that didn't work over the past 30 years of neoliberal ed reform. They are the Rip Van Winkle of educational ideas.

Donβt eliminate the option of state receivership for failing schools - The Boston Globe
Receivership should be a last resort if local officials canβt, or wonβt, improve their schools.
Editorial: The only way we can help struggling schools is to have the state (who has never "turned around" a school) take them over. Also, bring back the MCAS graduation requirement. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/20/o...

State mulls end-of-course tests, but officials insist they wonβt be another high-stakes graduation exam - The Boston Globe
State officials said the recommendations are not final and the tests would not necessarily be high stakes.
Voters were clear that they didn't want an MCAS graduation requirement. Politicians are clear that they don't care about voters (they serve business groups after all!). Look for a Globe editorial supporting a "new and improved" MCAS graduation test soon. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/10/16/m...

National Socialist Party of America v. Village of Skokie - Wikipedia
No parody. U.S. Nazis have the right to parade and spew hate speech, but a teacher can't say her honest feelings on social media about Charlie Kirk who routinely used hate speech (and said worse things about the attempted murder of Paul Pelosi). Got it. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...

Also, this is something like 5 exam school admission changes in 5 years. Give time to see how they play out for a few years. Then, make adjustments when you have enough data. Seems like they are just making changes to appease one (white) group (because they are!). π

No parody. Current exam school admission process is working as intended. Meaning, it ensures all Boston kids have equitable access to the exam schools. BPS claims these new changes will not make much difference. Why change them? (Because BPS is understating the negative impact!)

No parody. Teachers get paid less than other professionals with similar levels of education. They don't pay social security and also can't receive it. The least we can do is make sure that they can retire someday. Also, it is probably one of the reasons that Massachusetts has less teacher turnover.
