Check out the new episode of The Full Force (Redacted), where the host, Chris, asks about my career going back to my Tabletop RPG work in the 90s, to my Marvel merchandise art in the 2000s, to my latest GI Joe work for Hasbro. Thanks to Chris for a great conversation! www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_kq...

Never saw this one before. A Zartan T-shirt featuring my artwork. I knew a lot of my art was used on the GI Joe website but I didn't know they were using it for licensed merch, too.

I'm working on rebuilding my website from the ground up. It will include a massive art gallery of my work from the past 25 years. The most painstaking part so far has been tracking down images of specific Hasbro action figures that I've done art for in the last decade.

45 hours to go!

One stretch goal unlocked and closing in on our second one!

Plenty of signed bookplates, sketch cards, and sketches left!

Grab a guitar, sharpen a stake, and kill some vampires with @doncardenasart.bsky.social and me!

My colors over Dale Keown pencils, from around 2016, I think. I was a huge fan of Keown's work going back to his Aircel Comics days, so this was a treat for me to work on.

Wonder Man was always a C-list Avenger for me. I have no nostalgic feelings for the character. But I'm two episodes into the series and so far it's REALLY GOOD!

7/7 But at a certain point, artistic progression isn't obvious by simply looking at the end result. It's about the process. That's when the magic happens. The journey becomes more important than the destination.

6/7 Sometimes I see an artist on social media start a thread inviting others to "post a drawing from 5 years ago and one from today and compare how far you've developed your skills". And that works great for young artists because you can see real progress in the final results.

5/7 I know how to attack the problem, rather than just experiment until I stumble upon something that sort of works. Now I can achieve better results because my decisions are more deliberate.

4/7 Now I look back on these images and immediately know how to make them look far better. But it's more than just seeing the images with fresh eyes; I'm seeing them with more experienced eyes.

3/7 The Marvel art was usually cranked out quickly because there was such a high volume that needed to be done. So many of those images went to print as just "good enough" rather than "great". Back then I was a less efficient visual problem solver.

2/7 I'm cringing at some of this stuff. But there are plenty of game and book covers that I did 20+ years ago that I'm still very proud of and think are great representations of my work. But those book covers were generally done with long deadlines. I had time to perfect them.

1/7 I know this is going to sound bizarre to most people, because they'll read this and think I'm not serious. But lately I've been going through a lot of artwork I did for Marvel 10-15 years ago and... I AM SO MUCH BETTER AS AN ARTIST NOW THAN I WAS BACK THEN.

RIP Sal Buscema. I never had the honor of meeting him, but he was one of the artists that drew my childhood.

I'm guessing this is 2004-ish at Wizard World Chicago. I don't know who talked me into it, but I'm sure Jason Millet's chin was fine afterwards.

Me: "This figure looks off. I better shrink that arm. Now the other arm is too big. Shorten that one too. Now the shoulders are too wide. Now the legs are too long. Shrink them too. Yes! PERFECT!"
At this point I realize I could've had the same result by simply enlarging the head in the first place.
