I completely agree with you. My dad was a history teacher, but history was never my favorite subject in school. Now I see the importance of understanding history, and I'm somewhat fascinated by it as well. Better late than never, I suppose. π

07.10.2025 13:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi Susan! I am looking forward, as always, to your TheCampfire story!
07.10.2025 12:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is the Spanish Lake Blacksmith Shop, built in 1874 and moved to Faust Park Historic Village in St. Louis County in 2012. It is a brown barn-like structure with a small upper window and a chimney. I walk through this park often, and I wonder about the people who worked in this shop, as well as their customers. What were they like? Serious, funny, grumpy, shy? I wonder if the blacksiths sang or whistled as they forged their creations (some of which are still on display inside the shop)? What was discussed here? I could probably do some research about the man who built this shop, Jacob Wilhelm, and perhaps someday I will. Maybe I could even learn about Jacob's family, fellow blacksmiths, customers, etc. But for now, I am content to wander and wonder about this treasure of a structure, and the people who once worked within its walls.
Ah, October. It's the month in which I always feel just a little bit closer to those who came before us. Not just my own lost loved ones and ancestors, but those who worked and played on the ground on which I walk. (See Alt text for more) βοΈ
