The Govt claims to be pro-market yet: $200m subsidy for oil exploration; Uncapped subsidies to decommission old oil fields; $1billion subsidy for LNG imports; Fonterra faces zero price for emissions under ETS. There is a pattern here. They are using the state to support and subsidise pollution.

Kiwi couple who managed Epstein ranch also worked at his notorious island, documents show
The pair were initially brought on the manage the Zorro Ranch, but their culinary skills soon saw them replace Epstein’s personal chef.
so they're covering the nz couple who ran facilities... still no Pinker or Thiel in ANY stories though... Pinker is speaking TONIGHT on invitation of the FSU (wonder how many ACT folks et al will be in attendance) but it seems like more prominent associates of Epstein are a protected species in NZ

Biographies for the Research Funding New Zealand Board.
MBIE has announced the board members of Research Funding New Zealand, the new org that will make funding decisions for NZ's "major public investments in science, innovation and technology"
My initial response: 😬🤔🙄WTF
Why are three of them Aus-based? Why such a strong Agri lean? ⚛️🧪👩🔬

The Power of Poetry
with things falling apart

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,
so he reached for his copy

Here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.

Release: Targeted tax to grow the economy and fund free doctor’s visits
#nzpol Labour is proposing to create a Capital Gains Tax on property - excluding farms and the family home. That income will help make GP visits free for the majority of people. Is that a better policy than continuing tax-free profits on, say, someone's seventh property? Absolutely. A🧵

ACT MP asks Parliament to limit use of ‘genocide’ when describing Gaza war
Despite being in a party committed to freedom of speech, Simon Court asked Parliament’s Speaker to consider restricting the use of the word ‘genocide’ to describe what’s happening in Gaza.
refusing to recognise Palestine statehood wasn't enough for Simon Court; now he wants to stop MPs from using the word genocide to describe...GENOCIDE. fuck this guy and fuck the 'Free Speech (except when we don't like what you're saying)' ACT party.

EVs At A Record 98.4% Share In Norway — KGM Musso Arrives - CleanTechnica
August saw plugin EVs at a record 98.4% share in Norway, up from 95.7% year on year. BEVs alone took 96.9% share.
Norway puts our backtracking to shame:
Norway’s uptake of EVs is nearly 100%. August set a new record of 98.4% of all new sales (with plug-in hybrids a mere 1.5%). The government has a goal of ending the sale of fossil-fuelled cars by the end of this year.

Shielding the rich? Govt to axe info-gathering power that shed light on how much tax the rich pay
Axing the power will improve taxpayer privacy but weaken the quality of IRD policy advice.
The 2023 IRD wealth study found that the richest 300 people in NZ pay tax on income of 9.4%, versus 28% for someone earning $80k. Luxon Govt is removing the clauses of the tax law that allowed IRD to collect the study data. They don’t want you to know. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...

Quote attributed to Jones notes: "Don’t let these Green dreams drive us into poverty and drive all our young people away to Australia, only for new migrants coming from the third world to replace our own children and grandchildren. That’s not putting New Zealanders first.”
I see Shane Jones is telegraphing the same 'Great Replacement' narrative, & lie Christchurch terrorist used to justify massacre of 51 Muslims in March 2019. This is not political debate. This is violent extremist rhetoric fuelling racism, endangering communities, & ripping apart social cohesion.
