Idk what is up with the most recent FF games (not including 7 remake) wanting to tell you these huge stories every way EXCEPT by telling you the story using the actual events that happen in the game. Like companion movies? Active Time Lore systems? What if the story was in the game’s story???

FFXVI does a lot better that XV about being a self-contained experience, but it still suffers from trying clever little ways to tell you a story that’s the whole FFVII remake in length using only one game instead of multiple.

I think it’s impossible not to have a lot of thoughts about FFXVI or any game past or future in the FF series. Not only is it a franchise that has your literal fave game in it, but FF is a franchise that has been influential on video games itself. Any addition is gonna be under a microscope.

I think it’s the same problem as FFXV. I don’t want all this extra media to tell me what’s going on. It’s like if I went to a movie and they gave me a little handbook I have to read about the circumstances in every scene cause the movie’s not gonna explain it. Who would enjoy that??

Panel 1: We see a vast rocky landscape with a jagged outcropping building up a type of enclosure. In the foreground is a large Rhinosaurus-like creature, the Rhyvar, digging through the dirt. Two narrates. T: The Rhyvar is a massive, territorial creature. They section off these wide, open areas and use their horns as a shovel to search for crabopods which inhabit these underground tunnel networks, so expansive, the Rhyvar spends all day searching. --- Panel 2: Below the rocky terrain of the Rhyvar, Cassie and Two are crawling through a small tunnel on their hands and knees. Cassie looks at Two as he continues to explain. T: So, down here we can safely avoid the Rhyvar in it's own area! --- Panel 3: Cassie and Two pause in the tunnels as a crabopod, a small crab-like bug, silently walks past them in the opposite direction. Cassie asks concerned: C: By pretending to be it's food? --- Panel 4: The pair remain silent in the tunnel, staring at each other as the crabopod continues past them. --- Panel 5: The Rhyvar's horn crashes through the top of the panel and into the tunnel below, directly in front of Cassie and Two! Both curl up in fetal position against one another, cramming themselves against the side of the panel.

Oversized newspaper Sunday strips were always some of the most fun.
