This is the first Halloween we've had here where it really feels like Halloween outside. It's cold and windy, tons of leaves blowing around after a big storm. Ominous John Carpenter synths are wafting through the air. There's a guy with a machete on my lawn. Picture perfect holiday.

this is not a "you must bring Keita back to restore balance" plea or anything. he has moved into new planes of weird and I'd never try to fight whatever peculiar gravity pulls at him. just an acknowledgement that I will enjoy these games OK and never get the same feeling I did from the originals.

new Katamari is probably the best of the post-Keita efforts, but it still has that same intangible problem as the rest of them, in that it doesn't have the same spirit as the first two games. this new one is weird in very agreeable ways, and the soundtrack is excellent. but the aura is still...off.

Skate Story is the best Nextfest demo I've tried so far. you're a demonic skater trying to eat the moon and getting menaced by philosophy cops. I learned to ollie by touching a forbidden monolith. parts of it are soundtracked like a Jon Bois video. can't recommend enough.
