An amazing class (1980s @uwaterloo.ca) The book that stands out in my memory the most was Suzette Haden Elgin's 'Native Tongue.' We had to determine whether each society/civilization had language, something akin to belief system/religion, laws, currency/trade, social care, etc. Fascinating course.

Also: possibly my favourite undergrad course was "Anthropology through Science Fiction," so I would add #Anthropologists to the list of who SciFi and Fantasy Writers are!
