Her live album, Songs of Rapture and Redemption, is really special too. The banter and stories make the songs even better.

Is this also an impediment to you watching Shannon's movies?

In retrospect, that brief 2011-2012 period when REM, Sonic Youth, and Beastie Boys all ended in quick succession was a real you-don't-know-what-you-got-until-it's-gone moment

I love that Jennifer Warnes album. But it's a bit different, because she had known and worked with Leonard for years beforehand.

Michael Shannon is living out my dream (playing in a R.E.M. cover band so popular that Michael Stipe comes to your shows) and I'm happy for him

The fact that a glorified tribute band can sell out Brooklyn Steel probably says something about how desperately rock fans of a certain age miss R.E.M.

DM from a random person on Reddit:

hey! I was reading your post about spending four years writing a Nicolas Cage biography and running an AMA to promote it. quick heads-up: I sell a paid, end-to-end hybrid publishing and ghostwriting service for authors like you, we capture your voice, handle interviews, writing, production and global distribution, and clients keep full rights (we recently worked with an Olympic coach and a mother sharing a special-needs journey). Would you benefit from a team that could help ghostwrite or repackage your research into follow-up projects or a more market-ready edition and handle the production and distribution so you can focus on outreach and building readership?

I do sometimes miss the era when Mitski was a poster just like one of us

I think it's best for everyone to understand that the unified class project of billionaires right now is to do to white collar workers what globalization and neoliberalism did to blue collar workers.

At least Bush and Cheney respected the American people enough to ply us with fraudulent propaganda about the necessity of going to war.

Mitski is a much funnier songwriter than she gets credit for, as evidenced by the song where she spots a cat marking her house and becomes paranoid about displacement by feline.

Her delivery of that line is so good

My conclusions from the new Mitski album are (1) she is so good at being a bandleader, directing and delegating and hiring every woodwind the budget allows and (2) she has a lot of intense thoughts about cats.

I imagine it'll be hard to explain to future generations that the notion of Donald Trumpβ€”the real-estate buffoon from TVβ€”having the power to start wars was once a wacky late-night punchline.

In the late '90s, every popular NBA player was required to star in one (1) family-friendly movie. That was just the law.

I’m here again to preach the gospel of The Smashing Pumpkins who from Gish through Adore had an unbroken streak of perfect albums.
