I definitely assume the writers have enough awareness to know the balance between utter cunt and charming guy is exactly what makes him fun.

Yesss, but i do wonder now how much of it is carried on in the other media they make him appear. He's a side char in a game of his daughter(?) and a "hero" in a short comic still releasing. He gets portrayed as some potential good guy, but in the series he acted way too cruel for me to buy that. xD

So much!! For him others are only playthings, food, a story to consume. If he gotta make you cry, oh why not savor some salty tears and relish in a power trip? And when he plays nice, it's to push you were he wants you or keep the hassle low. And probably to delude himself that he's not a monster.
