Introduction beings: "What does it mean to be a brave woman? In 2020, we saw Belarusian women take to the streets dressed in white to oppose the violent dictatorship that had been in power for twenty-six years. In 2021, our television screens showed the Fall of Kabul, and the takeover by Taliban fighters, who overnight began to reverse decades of women’s empowerment. In response, and despite the risks, women demonstrators took to the streets in Kabul to demand their rights to work, education, and political participation. And in late 2022, we saw Iranian women fight for freedom, cutting their hair and burning their headscarves as they called for women’s rights in the context of brutal repression. "

They want more MOMS at home. And not just because they hate women.

Their *economic* model depends on unpaid labor. And the most effective way to coerce unpaid labor is to create a second class of people and teach them that they're only "naturally" suited for labor they're forced to do for free.

We can't imagine a better way to spend the day than coming together with a shared vision of security, peace, and equitable futures.

It was wonderful to be with @repilhan.bsky.social, @ramirez.house.gov, and the Feminist Peace Initiative on Capitol Hill yesterday talking about the impact of war on our families and the urgent need to reject the idea that safety comes from dominance.

We really need to be talking about the impact of these cuts and freezes not just on research but on people’s material ability to live— I don’t know if most get how precarious so many in academic are financially

Looks like almost everyone studying gender has their NSF funding revoked today.

It will be critical in the coming months and years to support junior scholars impacted by politically-motivated cuts to science funding. One potential pathway for philanthropic funders (after the lawsuits are resolved) is to prioritize funding cancelled NSF postdoctoral fellowships & CAREER grants.
