I live in the constituency and I could tell him for a fact that all my neighbours with Vote Green signs up have jobs, but none of this is about actual facts is it. We should probably all just ignore him and crack on really, instead of being surprised that he’s doing it again and giving him attention

Well the rate of economic inactivity *is* around 40% but obvs that includes retired people and students (10% of population) etc. If everyone in work had voted for the Reform grifter he’d have romped home with a nice 53%. Almost like he’s chatting shit, isn’t it?

Well yeah there are over 14,000 people not working (let’s not forget this includes retired people etc.) but if everyone in a job had voted for him he would have got 53% of the vote and smashed the Greens out of the park. Hmmm, almost like this claim is complete bollocks isn’t it?!

Some were Green Party members already so not at all entirely tactical voting, but my Labour member neighbour ended up leafleting for the Greens earlier this week, as an example of goings-on here.

For the last month my street WhatsApp has been what would have been solid Labour voters arguing about the best way to keep Reform out.It started off with some people assuming Labour, some Green.By the end most went Green I think as campaign seemed to have more momentum and clearly they had a chance

Yeah the group that went to Greens was much bigger and more significant for Labour (10,000ish?)

But as you say, this constituency is not representative of lots of other places….

Oh thanks. I’d had a half-arsed Google yesterday but not found this. Significant enough then.

Absolutely agree on the use of “working class” to mean “white working class” and ignoring “Muslim working class”. Not helpful at all.

Are there “high” numbers of students? I’m right on the edge of the Levenshulme & there are some students but I’d say “high numbers” start on the other side of the A34 which is Withington constituency. Some level of student housing in Longsight but not really Gorton/Reddish/Denton? Is data available?

Just wanna thank you for my hourly reminder that they lost their deposit. It brings me joy every time I remember about it 😆🤣

“Or that women, who make up roughly half the electorate, would be concerned by the threat of the repeal of the Equalities Act 2010”.

Are they actually implying that Muslim men have prevented their wives from voting Reform and if it wasn’t for that they’d have won? 🤣

Investigate away my friends, investigate away…

Added to the fact that Your Party were literally not on the ballot paper in Gorton and Denton 🙄

The Tories have potentially gifted them a couple of thousand votes (2,888 in 2024). But yeah the turnout was almost exactly the same and Reform doubled their vote to 10,000 so maybe 3k former Labour? I’m not a political specialist or anything - just have an interest cos I live in the constituency…

It’s not really an annihilation of the Tories in this constituency though. They only got 8% of the vote in 2024. The headline is basically still “Tories still irrelevant in Manchester”. Good to see them lose their deposit though 😆

[not so much in the “And Denton” bit of the constituency though - hence the level of Reform voting!]

My kids got Christmas cards off their Muslim classmates at primary school, I take mince pies to my Muslim neighbours at Christmas, they bring me food on Eid, we all slag off the weather etc. The “scary Muslim” trope just doesn’t land because white people actually know Muslim people here. [2/2]

Well quite. Just to say though, I think the crux of it isn’t that it’s a “realisation” - I think it’s more down to the fact that trying to import division into an area that has been mixed and pretty stable for decades hasn’t worked that well. I’ve lived in the constituency for 25 years … [1/2]

I live in bloody Gorton and Denton and I’m still waiting to hear which park I need to turn up in to collect my prescription crack.

I cannot stop chuckling about the fact that Sir Oink A Lot got five more votes than barely disguised BNP that is Advance UK 😆

I agree. I’m in G&D and all the Labour stuff I got through the door (almost daily) was stuff with dodgy polls declaring that Labour were the only option to beat Reform. And the odd bit of mad comms about the Green. Nothing about policy. Your lot did not get my vote this time round.

I’m in Levenshulme and my street WhatsApp (50ish ppl in it but not all participating the chat obvs) has been all about the tactical anti-Reform vote for the last month. Same with chats among my local friendship group. But each area in the constituency is so different can believe different elsewhere.

My doorbell went a bit ago and I had a moment of eye-rolling then realised I’d better actually answer it. Weird times.

Yes it’s def all v interesting. I suspect you could be right about that.

Also don’t wanted to be represented in parliament by a racist grifter. And don’t share his “values”. Love from one of the above mentioned people. X

I live in Gorton and Denton and I think Spencer did pick up a good whack of strategic votes. Lots of people I know were angst-ing for weeks about the best anti-reform vote, and it seemed like Spencer’s campaign had a bit more momentum. My Labour member neighbours were leafleting for Green…

I friggin live in Gorton and Denton and very much feel the same

The actual one word answer to your second questions is “no” - my perception is that the anti-Reform vote hasn’t coalesced behind one of the candidates. A lot of proper vote-splitting going on. It’s going to be sooooo tight 😬

I’m in one of the bits that seems to be swinging heavily to Green but it’s hard to tell if trad Labour voters just quieter. My street WhatsApp is all people angst-ing about what the best anti-Reform tactical vote is but none of us can work that out. Loud voices in favour of both Green and Labour 🤷🏽‍♀️
