The Westerville City Council race is nonpartisan (meaning party IDs are not on the ballot) but candidates do have partisan affiliations & voting histories.
This is useful information when you decide how to cast your voteβDemocrats will move Westerville forward but Republicans will take us backward.
Tonight, I spent time at the Franklin County Board of Elections talking to voters.
Early voting is available until 8:30 Tuesday and then until 7:30 pm through Friday. Weekend hours are 8 am to 4 pm Saturday and 1 to 5 pm Sunday.

09.09.2025 22:05 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0In my prepared comments for the May 6th council meeting, I wrote, βI am glad that Westerville is finally getting on the solar bandwagon... I hope the city will keep an eye on potential changes to renewable energy tax credits and be prepared to accelerate or expand.β Unfortunately, these changes have come to pass in the bill that Congress passed on July 3rd. Solar projects that begin construction after July 4, 2026, will need to be in service by December 31, 2027, in order to qualify for the production tax credit. Projects beginning construction before July 4, 2026, will have up to 4 years to be placed in service and still qualify for the tax credit. As a side note, these deadlines only apply to utility scale investments. But the bill also repeals residential and consumer tax credits. Electric vehicle tax credits expire in just a few weeks on September 30th. Residential energy efficiency and renewable energy tax credits expire on December 31, 2025. The ordinance that council adopted authorizes up to 10 MW of power purchase agreements with Clean Energy Ventures. The plans that have been shared in council meetings included the community center and the police HQ and represent a bit under 2 MW of generation. During discussions about solar, an incremental buildout was mentioned, with the community center and this building serving as pilots. However, if I understood correctly, the economics and financing from Clean Energy Ventures assumed the availability of the federal tax credits. Because those credits are now sunsetting and the clock is ticking, an incremental solar buildout may not be viable. This is an issue that cannot wait to be addressed by the next council. Members of council need to investigate and, if necessary, accelerate the planned solar buildout to meet at least the authorized 10 MW before the production tax credits expire.
At tonightβs Westerville City Council meeting, I spoke about the need to accelerate the cityβs solar buildout to take advantage of federal tax credits before they expire.
The clean energy tax credits were repealed as part of Trumpβs BBB: Big Bullshit Bill.
For Labor Day, letβs remember the union workers who built this country and fought for our rights in the workplace.
Hereβs my grandfather at work as a paper trimmer in the paper mill. He worked at the mill for over 30 years and was a union member.
