Poverty is not evidence, the presumption of innocence must apply to everyone In the final days of October, the Federal Government quietly inserted a last-minute amendment into an unrelated bill. It has been trying to rush through a change that would allow police and the Home A...

It is punishment without conviction. It has no place in a fair society."

The moral vacuity of signing up to "a β€œjust, orderly and equitable” transition away from fossil fuels" because fossil fuel GHG emissions are incompatible with the 1.5Β°C goal, then immediately reaffirming that Australia will "continue to develop new fossil fuel projects"

Who needs world-changing, life-saving science when you've got rugby league What does it say about us when we let CSIRO whither on the vine?

Australia is one of the richest countries on Earth, if we can afford $600m for a PNG footy team, we can certainly afford to properly fund our premier scientific agency

It's the perfect time for the government to defy the mining lobbies Long-gone are the days when the mining industry could claim to have the power to topple prime ministers and governments.

At a gas industry tax conference, the government’s representative did not use the words β€œgas” or β€œtax” in his 2500 word speech, writes @rodcampbell.bsky.social www.thenewdaily.com.au/opinion/2025...

C’mon @albomp.bsky.social we have the only sustainable (65000 years) continuous culture on the planet in which people learn wisdom from the past, are responsible to care for land and sea, and plan 7 generations ahead. Surely this is a national asset for #sustainable action not to be trashed. #auspol

This conference was such a fizzer that the CEO of the Minerals Council didn't even turn up, sending her deputy instead.

The reason for this is probably that iron ore companies that do pay tax are shitty that the tax-shy coal and gas miners are making them look bad.

The mining lobby is weak right now.

Last week the Minerals Council and gas lobby literally threw a party and no one (important) turned up.

When politicians talk about unemployment as a single number, they erase this reality. The barriers facing older people, the single parents juggling caring responsibilities, people with disabilities still battling discrimination, & people who don’t have qual, & money for transport.

If the Opposition is not the alternative government, what is the point of it? With Victoria on its third Oppostion Leader in a year, and speculation about pressure on the Federal and NSW Liberals, we're left wondering: what makes an Opposition Government?
