My gaster is flabbered. My brain is 100% convinced that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life happened AFTER we moved to FL in 2019.

I've now had it come up twice in recent wks (inc. my OWN FB memories) that it was 2016.

I mean. WHAT?

Random memory:

When my eldest was a wee boy, we pushed him to avoid hurtful phrases like "I hate you" simply because he was mad.

In his infinite youthful wisdom, he turned I hate you into "I don't like your shirt."

It was the most adorable expression of anger ever. Still is, actually.

My emotions are all topsy-turvy. I'm knee-deep in holiday/loss grief...crying over my writing...but then I am laughing ridiculously hard at fail videos...like WAY harder than I usually do.

Ooops. I was wrong. There's actually one more chapter after this. I thought it seemed like it would be a super long chapter to include it all.

Just took a pause mid-final-chapter to run to the restroom/refresh my drink...and when I sat back down, I noticed my word count...

77,777 words. 7 is a magically binding number in the series. ;)

In more of "the muse is trying to make me crazy" news...

Apparently the reason we've been stuck on the next #DarkSkyValley book is b/c she hates it, its timeline, & potentially its plot. Loves the characters & prologue.

She wants me to scrap the whole thing & start fresh.

But...short of it is that it helped me come to grips with DNFing books I'm not vibing with. Any time I wonder if I should continue I think of that book and make the choice my gut wants me to.

Oh, it didn't make me angry until the very last page. Before that, there were red flags that I opted to ignore because one element of the book was incredibly cool and unique...but there was twice that I should have listened to my gut. And then the big reveal at the end...ugh. still mad. lol

Like, I'm FURIOUS about this book to this day when I tell people I get angry I didn't quit when instinct told me to (TWICE). If it had been a physical book I would have thrown it across the room mad.

LOL.

All that being said, I am curious if you find this worth it in the end, b/c it's on my TBR.

I totally get finishing for all of the purposes you are determined to finish for. I know, as a librarian and reader you are aware of the dangers of this.

I'll just say...that the one book that I pushed myself to finish when I thought about DNFing is the one book I'm still MAD I finished.

And after talking with @patjohnstonpa.bsky.social we are now DEFINITELY splitting it up...and leaving book 1 on a horrible cruel cliffhanger and...yeah.

Oh, and titles were already baked into the original book so that's done, too. Now, to finish writing...including a brand new chapter now.

I swear on my life my muse is going to kill me. She's trying to turn this 1 book into 2...and I just...~sobs~ NOOOO...but it'll help the timelines a LOT...but...~wails~ I don't wanna figure out titles. ~bangs head HARD on desk~
