Voice actors are always insisting they are ACTORS first and foremost. Now acting has to share space with “sales person” and “influencer.”

And there’s industry folks who are able to do this effortlessly and keep getting cast in big roles and keep getting invited to big events as a result, and any threat to that cycle that is working exclusively for them is a problem.

So it’s hard to see a communal effort to push toward changing it.

Voice actors never get paid royalties on video games. It's one of the biggest scars on the industry as a whole.

They keep inching the breaking point further and further away and the fans of their projects will do all the work for them

Voice actors are already being treated like garbage, now their industry is being eviscerated and in a game that doesn’t even credit the VO fans are insisting “this seems fair.”

Even on projects that don’t feature AI, it’s often difficult to justify how little voice actors get paid for work on projects that sell in the millions

So it’s fascinating to see folks say “they were compensated fairly” repeatedly on this occasion where we don’t even have the voice actors credited.

Well yeah, have you seen what happens to those who don't want to sign off on this? Can you really call that consent when the alternative is losing (or never getting) a job?

Not to be the fun police but I do hope people know that Arc Raiders does use generative AI for voice acting, and by supporting the game you're letting higher-ups know that this is an okay practice.

They try to downplay this on the Steam store page by describing the AI usage as vaguely as possible.
