We are being gaslit every single second of our lives. The corporations are at war with the entire concept of "reality" itself.
Old people should retire and step down ainโt that what they told Joe.

13.12.2024 00:37 โ ๐ 26954 ๐ 5441 ๐ฌ 742 ๐ 261LinkedIn post by Robert Sterling, featuring a photo of Brian Soderling: โBrian Thompson went from Jewell, Iowa (population 1,200) to leading 140,000 employees and overseeing $280B of revenue at one of the worldโs most important companies. His mom worked as a beautician, his dad at a grain elevatorโthey were probably really proud when he graduated valedictorian of his 50-person high school class. He played basketball and the trombone, got elected homecoming king, and worked in soybean fields and meat processing plants during summers. While studying at the University of Iowa, he met the woman who would become his wife, with whom he would have two kids. By all accounts, he was smart, hard-working, funny, and a thoroughly decent man. This guyโnot the person who murdered him in cold bloodโwas everything thatโs right and good about America, and the American Dream. May his memory be a blessing, and may his example inspire all of us to do better.โ
Reply from Erik Midas: I donโt normally comment on posts but the situation of the murder of Unitedhealthcareโs CEO did strike a nerve for me. My experience with UnitedHealthcare started in 2014 and ended in 2019. Iโm a type 1 diabetic and require insulin injections to survive. 2014 and 2015 were fine but in 2016, UnitedHealthcare decided to decline my insulin coverage. As I was told by the appeals specialist in 2016 and I remember it like it happened an hour ago, โIโm not saying we donโt cover insulin, Iโm saying we donโt cover your insulin.โ At the time, I was forced buy vials of insulin out of pocket at a cost of $740/vial. Each vial lasting only 3 weeks. I found out through my partner that I could get my insulin in another country (Brazil) for much cheaper than in the United States. Attached is an image of the insulin I purchased at a pharmacy in Rio de Janeiro. To understand what you see, the total cost of all this insulin was the same as 1 vial in the US. The image is of an 18 month supply. Itโs unfortunate that someone was murdered but itโs also important to think about how many thousands were murdered by a company in order to get a higher quarterly dividendโฆa company that claims to be in the business of providing healthcare services?
Reply from Annette Dinh: โMy father paid health insurance to UHC for 50 years. He was never hospitalized until the last year of his life. He had light stroke, fell, and passed out. We called 911 to take him to the hospital close to my parents house. At 12:30AM, I received a call from UHC case manager that they had to transfer my father to another hospital 15 miles away from his house. Itโs because the cost is lower at the hospital they transferred him to. I was so upset. They couldnโt wait till morning to transfer him. It was not fair the way he was handled. He was 93. At 12:30AM, I rushed to the hospital he checked in. I waited in the parking lot for an hour until they carried him out to the ambulance. I made sure that he saw me and that he wasnโt alone. I followed the ambulance to the new hospital 15 miles away. Once again, before they carried him to the emergency room, I made sure he saw me and that he wasnโt alone. I never forget those moments in my life. Thatโs how bad UHC treats old patient.โ
Reply from Zhiheng Lou with 1751 reactions: โAs a European observer, what strikes me about this post is that โ$250B of revenueโ is in the first line of text rather than an achievement in patient outcomes or the health care system. What is the priority? Do customers feel the services have improved? Has the system become more productive and easier to use? Revenue is what companies collect to provide products and services. It is what companies do with this money that countsโฆ I hope America takes this time to reflect and reform.โ
