Accepting their children for who they are and not shaming or allowing them to be shamed by others if they don’t fit society’s standards.

Treating your child as a human and apologizing to them when you're wrong.

There's a lot of respectability politics in the Black community so any of that didn't age well.

Doing anything that makes your child feel as if your love will be denied if they aren't what you want them to be and what they want isn't harmul to others.

I grew up leaning into humility which is good, however I needed to unlearn some of this to be good at my creative pursuit.

TBH nothing. They were pretty good at doing their best to make us functioning adults.
