I guess the books are more serious but I think if you are going to do a sharknado style comedy premise the movie needs to play it serious or everything gets too campy and silly.

They had the writer of the books and the director on Joe Bob and I really liked both of them and thought they had some interesting insight. The writer used to be a high school English teacher and wrote the books to appeal to kids to encourage them to read.
