Glass and aluminum can be recycled endlessly, but plastic has a limit. Almost all the plastic ever created is still with us, polluting our planet. What if we had a better way to recycle it? Nature might offer one solution.

Iβm seeing several social media accounts share the βnew species of manta ray discoveredβ as βgood news for conservation.β
Umβ¦how?
Taxonomy is foundational for conservation, sure. But itβs not like the threats to manta rays ignored this species until scientists described it?
Contrary to denialist claims, clear evidence of the global threat of bioinvasions to ecosystems, economies & human well-being is presented in the 2023 IPBES report. This 890-pg document compiled by 86 experts from >40 countries is the most comprehensive assessment of invasive species ever conducted.

Biodiversity isnβt a nice-to-have. Itβs a must-have. Simple as that.
Next time you talk about climate action, remember: without biodiversity, the whole system breaks down.
A split-screen image. The left side shows a rhinoceros mother and calf in a savanna landscape with scattered trees. The right side depicts a forest fire scene with orange flames and silhouetted trees against a dark sky. Text reads: "Biodiversity is in crisis" followed by: "1 million plant and animal species risk extinction Ecosystems are collapsing Misinformation slows progress." "Trust the science. Conserve, restore and sustainably use biodiversity."
βBiodiversity is not decliningβ is a claim you may have heard. But science says otherwise. π
The @ipbes.netΒ #GlobalAssessment reveals 1 million plant & animal species are at risk of extinction. Misinformation clouds the crisis.

An evening prayer for ash trees, Fraxinus. The majority of ash trees are in decline or at risk of extinction. Most North American ash trees are threatened by emerald ash borer; European ash trees are threatened by ash dieback. The prayer is that we exert enough resources to prevent their extinction.

On this day in 1933, Harriet Brooks died.
She was the first Canadian female nuclear physicist. She discovered atomic recoil and was called an equal of Marie Curie in brilliance.
