I have a bad habit of not finishing books, even when I like them & want to finish them. Idk why. Something's just wrong with me. But when I do actually finish a book, I'm so proud of myself and I want to brag abt my accomplishment. But my accomplishment is just that I finished reading a book I like

Social media created this nonsense idea that not exposing yourself to hatred is isolationist. Choosing to not spend your free time with bigots isn’t living in a bubble. I don’t need to know what’s going on at X. I won’t be smarter or more knowledgeable or empathic by being there. Neither will you.

The sketch depicts a landscape with mountains and a red tree. In the sky is a red orb. Below the tree stands a little samurai silhouette and somewhere hides a cat.

She’s raised almost $20m to help Minnesota – she thinks you can do it too Ashley Fairbanks launched Stand with Minnesota as ICE raids rocked her home town – now donations are pouring in, and families’ rent is being paid

Ashley Fairbanks @ziibiing.com launched Stand With Minnesota standwithminnesota.com, a mutual aid repository supporting residents under ICE's siege, in early Jan. in the weeks since, it's facilitated covering people's rents and flown folks detained back home from Texas.

she can help you do it, too.

This is a very very very obvious point to make but shops and movie rental places and record stores are all more fun than buying things online

Writing helps you organize and clarify your own thoughts.

When others read, it helps them do the same, whether they agree with you or not.

Both of us probably need the reminder a year from now.

This is why it’s valuable to write, even if your ideas aren’t unique.

Two years after life-changing neurosurgery, I was attempting to shift gears from my physically challenging temp archaeology fieldwork job & PhD to museum/labwork. When I was offered a full-time salaried position by my employer, I was told I couldn't work from home on my sick days like I had been.

We are as worthy of love & safety when we're completely disappointing people, as when we're living up to all their expectations.

Love & safety are not rewards we "earn" for behaving "well." We deserve them because we exist.

Something many trauma survivors have in common is, we don't feel like we were born into a "tribe" (not any tribe that we want to be part of, anyway). Recovery often involves finding &/or creating our "tribe," by being real & expressive about things our culture tends to deny.

It's a big deal when trauma survivors get the hang of using humor to get us through dark moments, instead of using it to kick the sh*t out of ourselves.

Humor is an underappreciated trauma recovery tool that our abusers often taught us to use as a weapon for self-harm.

The Minneapolis Resistance Will Do Your Laundry From free airline miles to washing clothes, Minnesotans are keeping each other safe from ICE—and leaving a blueprint for the rest of us.

I hadn't cried about how much I love Minneapolis in a few days, so this was a good one to read:

"Minnesotans will continue to keep Minnesotans safe until we rid the state of the federal occupation, just like lake ice is weakened by springtime sunshine and subsumed by the water below."

Naming specific reasons why we are angry at our abusers isn’t about scoring more tally marks against them, its about giving language to our “parts” that need a voice so they can finally heal.

Identifying the roots of our anger isn’t an act of blame; it is an act of self-care. ❤️‍🩹

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.

Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

You're under no obligation to find the same things interesting, funny, or meaningful that anybody else in your family does-- or even that you did once upon a time. YOU get to decide & develop what the "you" of today, here, now, wants to focus on & incorporate into your identity.
