04.08.2025 17:00 β π 1409 π 350 π¬ 35 π 6Alison Brie and Dave Franco in Together.
Togetherβ a good-not-great debut that avoids embellishing the commitment theme and skirts around a hard push into grue and gore. Script a tad blunt. Brie and Franco, true genre performers with gifted comedic timing in the filmβs blackest moments.

02.08.2025 17:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This was THE video cover that made me excited by horror moviesβ both scared and exhilaratedβ remember seeing it on the top shelf at our local corner shop. Love this film and, damn, love this cover art π

Killer on the Road title page signed to Gem by Stephen Graham Jones
My lovely friend @readswithdogs.bsky.social kindly snagged me a copy of the new Stephen Graham Jones, and @sgj.bsky.social signed it to me! π Very grateful. (I was librarianing at the time, otherwise Iβd have been there!β I will be at the next Seattle book tour stop!)
Canβt wait to dive in πͺπ©Έ
I just got a copy of The Auctioneer! Got Elementals on my reading list, and Iβve not heard of Ken Greenhall! Thank you for the recommendations, Johnny!! βΊοΈ
28.07.2025 23:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh yeaaah! Iβve got all three on my TBR list π Such fun having a new author to dive into! Any other older horror scribes you recommend?
28.07.2025 14:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sweetheart, Sweetheart β favourite book of the year so far (after King Sorrow). Late 70s English village life disrupted by a series of mishaps at a cottage. Taylorβs prose reminds me of books I read as a kid, sprawling, hazy delightful Englandβ¦ thatβs full of terror. Strong recommend!

If only it had less than 10 RT reviewsβ(This would be such a terrific film to hear on CF!)

Reason #6373980 why I love my job and why public libraries remain vitalβ prepping for our Teen Writing Camp that starts Monday.

Cover of Bernard Taylorβs Sweetheart, Sweetheart
The cover of Sarah Pinboroughβs new book, We Live Here Now
Having recently finished the latest Sarah Pinborough, I jumped into a much older horror tomeβ Bernard Taylorβs Sweetheart, Sweetheartβ and theyβre such perfect companion reads. English cottages, nefarious goings-on, steeped in atmos! Love when this sort of just happens!

Absolutely wild that my one and only trip to SDCC was 8 years ago, back when I wrote for @gamesradar.com.web.brid.gy.
Had the best time getting to hang with the Total Film gangβ loved the heat and the buzz!
Sending everyone there this year all the vibes for good health and fun discoveries π
Oh man, me too! Loved PH as a kid and still love it now. My collection is also steadily accumulating. Iβll deffo let you know what I make of these! βΊοΈ

Picked up these two at our islandβs annual rummage saleβ not heard of the author or either title but theyβre mid90s YA horror.
Nightmare Matinee has teens at a horror movie turning into the characters?! Sounds right up my street!
Oh no, I guess Iβve got to re-read IT in preparation. How awful, boo hoo, etcβ¦..

W O W⦠Ghost Eaters is one of my favourite horror novels of the last decade. Completely transported me to another world and its descriptions I think about in a weekly basis. Excited to see how some of this translates!

09.07.2025 00:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I try to read widely for work but my heart is rooted (rotted?) in horror, esp this time of year. Teenage summertimes were when I fell in love with the genre (and probs why I only wanna re-read Stephen King right now.)
So many good titles coming out this year!!!
Gosh, yes! I had forgotten about Rhiannaβs pod. I did listen to the episode she did with Mike which was such fun.
Iβve guested on 3 pods now and itβs such a blast actually DOING it and then learning how itβs recorded, edited, all that stuff. Deffo contemplated doing one!
I am very excited for another DeVaughn pod!! Wahoo!
Also, I was wondering: do you have any recommendations for podcastsβ¦ ABOUT making a podcast? Iβd really love to hear from my favourite film podders specifically so not sure if youβre aware of any offshoot eps folks have done? Thanks!
Itβs a LOTβ but itβs tough βcause those things are genuinely interesting and kinda fun. Itβs the basics of having the time to dedicate to doing it all. Ah!
08.07.2025 15:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs beyond disheartening. As the idea of branching into TikTok/youtube/facebook groups (to counter the Google search drop) AND writing for my site became overwhelming, Iβve decided to stop writing for my blog altogether.
