True. I'm considering going back unfortunately.

After 2 terrible congresses this year, I'm so happy with the 1st half of the season as we break for xmas:

Club championship (open) 3/3 - joint first
County championship (U2000) 3/3 - half a point ahead in 1st
League 5/6 - team is top of Division 2.

Final position in my latest game:

I didn't consider it during the game. Maybe another time. Should be looking at all forcing moves in a tactical position like this.

Chess commentators had varied reactions today as Ding Liren's blunder Rf2 gave the world championship to Gukesh.

The moment Rf2 was played on Chessbase India. What a moment.

Recent game of mine. White to play. What's the best move here?

Best move is +1.8. 2nd best is +0.7.
Fwiw I played the 2nd best which was good enough in the game.

Until the end when you're happy with the result and your opponent is disappointed. Psychological victory!

Any #chess folks here actually able to see the difference between the 3 Staunton sets at the chess and bridge store?

A lot less interesting than round 1. Would be interesting to see them play the full game to understand the endgame technique etc but the early draw is pretty boring. Understandable but boring.

Feel bad for Ding at the moment but would rather see Gukesh as world champion. Hopefully it is a close match with some decisive games.

Thanks, noted. Will check it out. I'm generally not a fan of the massive courses as not needed at my level, c.1800. Often the short n sweet are enough but not always. If I get the big ones, using the quickstarter section plus the model games is a good way to make it manageable.

Thanks Nick. I was just thinking I might get a book or course. Have learned from the Chess Dojo material but they don't cover the Jobava and their breaks are always with e5 I think.

Ha well if you're going to slack off like that.

My bad. There is no clean win. Just interesting to find the best idea ie c5 at -1.6 compared to Qd6 at -0.4. a5 is the 2nd best move btw
