It’s what Nate Silver would have wanted.

I am reminded that a startling number of people believe that if you’re a member of the military and you don’t like something your government did, you can just throw up your hands and quit the next day like any other job.

It Does Not Work That Way

It’s insane this is legal. People around Trump are profiting off war and death. I’m introducing legislation ASAP to ban this.

This company needs to be put out of business.

It’s an indictment of society that it’s allowed to exist at all, but it’s all the more damning that it possesses the prominence it does.

X Is Drowning in Disinformation Following US and Israel’s Attack on Iran WIRED has reviewed hundreds of posts on X that promote misleading claims about the locations and scale of the attack.

β€œAlmost all of the most viral posts reviewed by WIRED on Saturday came from accounts with blue check marks, meaning they…could be eligible to earn money based on how much engagement their posts generate, even if the content is false.”

From US admin official background briefing recording listening to, seriously question if US negotiators understood what Iranians were proposing. One official keeps saying acronym for β€œIAEA” wrong.

On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.

Trump admin briefing that Iran planned missile attacks on US positions in region which this attack preempted is the most insulting, laughable lie I’ve heard in my career, and I’ve heard a lot of them. It isn’t remotely credible and frankly reeks of desperation reaching for any justification.

In case you’re just waking up, the U.S. has teamed up with Israel overnight to start an illegal war of regime change, apparently on a presidential whim with no involvement of Congress, and they are already committing horrific atrocities.

really a good sign about OpenAI's own prediction of its trajectory that it is lunging at the killbot, mass surveillance and porn use cases before a lawyer could even read the contracts

Sam Altman tweet:

Tonight, we reached an agreement with the Department of War to deploy our models in their classified network.

In all of our interactions, the DoW displayed a deep respect for safety and a desire to partner to achieve the best possible outcome.

AI safety and wide distribution of benefits are the core of our mission. Two of our most important safety principles are prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and human responsibility for the use of force, including for autonomous weapon systems. The DoW agrees with these principles, reflects them in law and policy, and we put them into our agreement.

We also will build technical safeguards to ensure our models behave as they should, which the DoW also wanted. We will deploy FDEs to help with our models and to ensure their safety, we will deploy on cloud networks only.

We are asking the DoW to offer these same terms to all AI companies, which in our opinion we think everyone should be willing to accept. We have expressed our strong desire to see things de-escalate away from legal and governmental actions and towards reasonable agreements.

We remain committed to serve all of humanity as best we can. The world is a complicated, messy, and sometimes dangerous place.

I spent yesterday afternoon teaching my students about the Trump AI strategy that Dean largely wrote, with additional material from his substack. This is a remarkable statement for him to make.
