Today’s military strikes on Iran β€” carried out by the United States and Israel β€” mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war.

Fortunately, Woke Jordan Peterson has been waiting for us this whole time

(Peterson is just an evil reading of Jung imo)

I used this translation as well last year and loved it (but the older one is the one actually used for services at my parish)

Agreed; the metaphor I prefer re: this relationship is the one used by Archbishop Anastasios of Albania (of blessed memory)- that religion/theology when applied to culture is like an oil: it can either be used as a holy chrism or a healing agent, or as an accelerant for fire and destruction.

Yes, absolutely; grading student writing is so laborious in part bc it’s ethically demanding- you have to work very hard to be fair and equitable. For that reason alone there is no way I’m ever using AI to grade student writing. I’m responsible for how I grade, simple as.

I'd just like to say that this is, in fact, the essence of my life's work, and I in all seriousness consider it a privilege to read students' discussion posts. Engaging seriously- and thankfully- with these thoughts *is* what it means to teach.

Some Common Misperceptions about the Date of Pascha/Easter Dr. John Fotopoulos addresses some of the common misunderstandings around East/West differences on the dating of Pascha.

Also important to remember John Fotopoulos' (one of the statement authors) classic PO piece on this issue that educated many Orthodox on this topic, including me:

Important statement, and completely agree:

"The Orthodox Church’s current method of calculating the date of Pascha is no longer consistently faithful to the Nicaean norms...Renewed efforts are vital for the Orthodox Churches to calculate more accurately the date of Easter"

Shameless research plug. After the shooting of Gabby Giffords, members started doing bipartisan seating at SOTUs like Massie & Khanna are tonight. The argument was that this might promote comity in the House. This was part of the motivation for what would eventually become my @psrm.bsky.social...1/

A mini-thread as a political scientist in response to Westwood's post, since he was trained, I believe, in political communication at Stanford & is in the Department of Government (i.e., political science) at Dartmouth. Just my two cents, but as a political scientist I disagree w/ Westwood's post.1/

Additionally, not all academia is about "science" in the STEM sense; the humanities are not designed to discover and convey data.

The humanities connect you with other human beings through the culture they produce. Its the act of *human connection* that is the whole point.

Long-awaited paper by originalist legal scholar Mike Ramsey arguing that the traditional robust view of birthright citizenship is the correct one.

Just fwiw- this might also be because today is Forgiveness Sunday in the Orthodox calendar, the day before the beginning of Great Lent; and its customary for Orthodox on this day to say to each other "Forgive me, a sinner"
