We stayed last night in Tewkesbury so first stop this morning was Slimbridge WWT where the Jack Snipe was bobbing up and down. The Tundra Bean Geese were also reasonably close viewed from the Tower Hide. Ended with fantastic views of the possible Holbells Red -necked Grebe at Cheddar.

Second time lucky at Deeping St James this morning the Little Owl could be seen even without bins. Unfortunately at 11.20 it moved out of sight but luckily it then moved again where it could be seen and enjoyed by several Birders. The 3 Glossy Ibis flew overhead before landing along the river again.

Arrived at Bintree Mill at 10.45 and left at 16.00 but no sign all day of the Black-bellied Dipper.
Nice to chat to a succession of Birders but I didn't expect to see Barra Birder Bruce Taylor in the wilds of North Norfolk.

Barn Owl this morning perched on a post near the car park at Blakeney Quay. A flock of 60+Snow Buntings along the shingle at Salthouse. Ended the day with a Merlin perched on a boat off Stiffkey coastal car park.

Titchwell RSPB seemed very quiet this morning. Four Long-tailed Ducks on the sea and a female Scaup on the last pool. A couple of Red-throated Divers flew past.

A 2 mile walk to the pumping station at Stubb Mill. Worth it though as the Black-winged Kite gave excellent scope views perched in the left hand pine tree at 12.20.

For the first time in several years I failed to see Hawfinch at Lynford Arboretum. Disappointing but I had great views of Goshawk up the road. A small flock of Crossbills were around most of the day near the bridge at Lynford.

Only a few drops of rain today but a chilly wind. Started the day seeing the Snow Goose in a large flock of Whoopers. Then 2 LEOs, 5 Cranes and estimated 500 Pinkfeet at Eldernell. 9 Russian White-fronted Geese and 2 Tree Sparrows at Welney. Good to see so many Pochards from the main hide.

Despite the miserable weather 5 male and 2 female Smew were seen at Eyebrook Reservoir. At Deeping St James the LEO was in the ivy covered tree to the right of the hide. A walk down the river bank and the 3 Glossy Ibis were around a small pool on the right. No Little Owl though.

It hasn't stopped raining in West Cornwall since we left our hotel at 9.45. Visibility from Longrock car park was poor with Newlyn barely visible. The Scaup and Goldeneye on Longrock Pool at 12.03 possibly the only birds I will see today as the weather is forecasted to get much worse later.

Red-necked Grebe & Slavonian Grebe both still at 11.55 viewable looking west from Bar Beach, Helford. Still haven't seen a single Great Northern Diver this year.

When the photographed juvenile Kumlien's Gull flew off from the roof of the building at Newlyn Harbour it is now believed that the juvenile gull which was then found off Tolcarne beach was not the same bird but an Iceland Gull.

Yesterday afternoon I scanned the bay viewable from the path by the cemetery at the top of Marazion and didn't see any Divers. This afternoon I walked from Perranuthnoe and watched a group of 4 Black-throated Divers gradually swim into this bay. 8 Knot were roosting on rocks then it hailed.

I've no idea how many Pallas's Warblers I have seen but early afternoon today the Pallas's at Penrose NT gave prolonged and outstanding views when it was in this tree. Best I have ever had.

We were down at Hayle whilst it was still dark this morning. No sign of Greenland White-front at either Copperhouse Creek or Ryan's Field. Spoonbill at Ryan's. Scaup at Longrock Pool and pair of Lesser Scaup at boating lake, Helston

A quick dash from Steart down to the Exe Estuary and luckily the Royal Tern was still on a yellow buoy close to the hide at Dawlish Warren. It was distant from Cockwood Steps but still good views at x70. Happy days.

I was too late this morning to see the Kentish Plover on the beach at Burnham. After a lot of scanning through the Ringed Plover flock on the island the Kentish Plover was finally spotted and eventually gave good views at x70.

Birding plans had to be changed as when I was driving near Crows an Wra this morning I realised I had left my scope and bins behind in our Hayle Hotel bedroom!!! Managed to see 3 Blackcaps, a Grey Wagtail and 10 Chiffs using Ann's Opticron bins before rain stopped play early afternoon.

I stopped at Marazion Marsh RSPB at 17.20 and quite expected the flock of Egrets visible from the railway bridge to be Little Egrets. On viewing them through my scope though they were all Cattle Egrets, 31 in total.

Seems like the rumour was wrong as it has been reported back at Hayle RSPB this afternoon.

Rumour has it that the Hayle White-rumped Sandpiper was taken by a Peregrine after I saw it yesterday afternoon. No sign of it this morning either at Hayle RSPB or Carnsew Pool. Spoonbill on Carnsew Pool at 11.05.

My last Terek Sandpiper was in 1998 at Stanpit
Marsh just two years after the one at Bowling Green Marsh in 1996. It's about time another one turned up in the South West, preferably in Devon

We were just driving near Marazion when the news of the White-rumped Sandpiper came on the Cornwall WhatsApp Group. Luckily there were Birders on the bird by the time I got there. 2025 has been an excellent Sandpiper year for me. Terek next!!! I should be so lucky.😂

A cold morning at Colliford Lake. Fortunately the Baird's Sandpiper was showing well on the shoreline at 10.40 with a single Dunlin. Park in Dam car park and walk left for about 400 yards.
