Cancer prevention must be made more inclusive esp for low income & disadvantaged where smoking related cancers hugely over represented. Best way do that is make easier for smokers to switch to tobacco harm reduction eg vaping @gerrystimson.bsky.social @chancethegardener.bsky.social

Science Media Centre shares expert opinions that align with evidence, thatโs not โcheerleadingโ itโs accurate science communication. Instead of attacking the messenger, perhaps your focus should be on engaging with the research itself. Seriously!!

Accusing them of bias without evidence just distracts from the real issue: the overwhelming scientific consensus that vaping is a harm reduction tool, not a public health threat.

If youโre suggesting theyโre industry shills, whereโs the proof? The SMC has also platformed critics of vaping hardly the behaviour of a one-sided lobby group.

Thatโs a tired and baseless claim. The SMC amplifies expert opinions across various scientific fields, including tobacco harm reduction. If their messaging on vaping appears supportive, itโs likely because independent experts and evidence consistently show that vaping is far safer than smoking.

๐ฏ% right! Australia just after performative changes at this stage. Want โฌ๏ธviolence? Then โฌ๏ธcigarette taxes! Want smokers shift from illegal โก๏ธlegal cigs? Then โฌ๏ธcig tax

Nope. Illicit sellers won't bother getting licenses. They'll adapt to whatever regulatory changes the govt makes - most likely by staffing stores with expendable mules and limited stock, and simply re-open for business once inspectors have moved on.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Becky hates vaping, but hasnโt a clue.
She shouts โThink of the children!โโa tale growing old,
While millions quit smoking, their futures retold.
Science moves forward, the data is clear,
Yet Becky stays stubborn, refusing to hear.

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Becky hates vapingโshe thinks itโs taboo.
She scoffs at the clouds, rolls her eyes in disdain,
Ignoring the facts again and again.
But science is clear, the truth wonโt hide,
Harmโs being reduced, no need for pride!

Importance of this study strengthened by fact that countries where safer nicotine products other than vaping became popular smoking rates also plummeted eg snus in Sweden. Cig sales fell >50% in 7 years in Japan after heated tobacco products were introduced @jgitchell.bsky.social
