Legacy media and cable news reduced Trump's aggression against Chicago to a question of whether troops would be sent immediately. When he said he was taking his fascist military spectacle elsewhere, those media players declared the situation over—while waves of federal agents attack our neighbors.

Several people and I sued DHS and Kristi Noem, and won a preliminary injunction. Here’s the meat of the judge’s order:

Local outlets have been reporting on these exact same community efforts in Los Angeles over the last few months, and it’s heartening to see that folks on the ground in DC have taken notice and are taking similar action for themselves and their neighbors.

Just to give you a sense how far all this shitposting and chatter has spread, my 14 y/o niece—who only recently joined IG and has no other social media—just told me her chats are blowing up about it too

i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.
