With an orbit of only 88 days, little Mercury never strays far from the Sun. For that reason, it can be difficult to spot in our morning or evening sky.
Luckily, on Christmas Eve, it will reach "Maximum Western Elongation', or the farthest West that it can reach in our Eastern morning sky.

We're ending the year with another "parade of planets' in our evening sky, and straight on until mid February. All of the naked eye planets except Mercury will be visible in our evening sky until about mid February. Mercury is in the morning sky now.

The Geminid Meteor Shower peaks on Thursday night. It's usually one of the best shows of the year, but this year, a bright Gibbous Moon will lead the constellation across the sky all night. This means that we might catch the brightest meteors, as the big Moon will wash out a large patch of sky.
