The medal was awarded for actions taken on Jan 03. The award was given on Feb 24.

I can find no mention of the name “Slover” in any of the bills that were passed between those two dates.

Don’t repeat the mistake of 2016. Don’t nominate a candidate that is abhorrent to a significant portion of your allies. Don’t nominate a guaranteed loser.

Democrats have MANY options this cycle. Most just cause a bit of grumbling at worst - but not him.

He’s currently the only candidate capable of losing to a generic republican, because of his loathsome treatment of the poor, his fascist buddies, his dining out during a lockdown he imposed, his anti-trans bigotry, his genocide support, and his stupid fucking hair.

Democrats are always told, clearly and in no uncertain terms, who the Hell No candidates are, well in advance.

Gavin Newsom is a Hell No. Nothing can be done to fix this - he’s already clearly a bridge too far. His flirting with fascists won’t win him ANY right-wing votes to make up for that.

Most Americans don’t vote though. The electorate democrats want is not the electorate we have. A significant number of people WILL sit out every election.

Motivation matters.

Republicans understand this. Democrats do not.

“Vote blue, no matter who” is their mantra, and they lean heavily on their (correct) belief that the worst democrat is usually better than the best republican nominee.

If everyone in the USA voted in every election, this would work. It would piss everyone off, but it would work.

Most commonly, democrats tell the left to go fuck themselves, and push center-right candidates on the party in the ALWAYS MISTAKEN belief that, if they veer rightward enough, some “swing voters” will swing their way. Maybe they’ll even pick up a few republicans, if the stars align.

For the most part, republicans (pre-trump) tended to humor these people long enough to have a debate, and then they would get pushed out, leaving nothing but acceptable candidates for their party.

Democrats … often fail to do this.

Every four years, there exist one or two “hell no” candidates on each end of the political spectrum. People so awful that a significant portion of those who are aligned with them simply can not hold their nose and vote for.

Usually, they fade out before the general election, but not always.

If I say something is “crazy bullshit,” you know what it means, and that it’s distinct from “batshit-crazy.”

“Going apeshit” has a clear meaning, different from “gone to shit.”

Strongly-worded letters will save the republic! Now is not the time to fix things, just because most of society is motivated for change! What is truly needed is a polite objection, followed by status quo voting!
