Mike Scott has inspired me to think about Millbrook - where Tim Leary intersected with Charles Mingus, Charles Lloyd, Patty Waters amongst others

A landscape orientation view of the long abandoned Halcyon Hall, in Millbrook, New York, a few years before its final demolition. Formerly a luxury resort and then a girls' school, the beauty of its original form is visible beneath the decay and rot that claimed it. The building has stone chimneys, large windows, stone boundations with multiple levels of arches. Runaway vegetation has claimed much of its former lawns, and sumac and scrub oak are scattered throughout. No glass now rests in its windows.

The picture has been run through home brew image processing software which has manipulated the colors and outlined details in black.

The sky is a rust red, the vegetation and much of the building are a blue grey, looking like they are covered in a thin layer of mildew. The remaining open lawn is a dry, dull yellow.

Great story by my colleague Lana Bellamy about Charlie Johnson, a Millbrook native who was killed in the Korean War after saving other injured soldiers.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor this month, but his story was lost until 2001 when middle schoolers learned about him during a research project
