And for all the pluripotency enthusiasts out there, I think it will be incredibly exciting to unravel pluripotency gene regulatory networks across as many species as possible!

There’s still a lot of work to be done, which makes this field all the more exciting. I hope that one day there will be embryonic stem cells from all species (gotta stay optimistic!). Maybe they might even assist ongoing efforts by the biodiversity and conservation community on species conservation!

Thoroughly enjoyed writing this short journal club article for Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology. Thanks for the invitation, Kim Baumann!
I used this opportunity to highlight again the pioneering work on rhinoceros embryonic stem cells by Hildebrandt et al. (2018).

The preprint of my dear friend Svetlana Jovanic showing that
"cell behaviour during gastrulation is robust to the deficiency of yolk topology & signalling originating from the yolk syncytial layer."
is now online!

Application
The graduate program IMPRS for Biology And Computation (IMPRS-BAC) provides an education for students at the interface of molecular life sciences and computational sciences. This is based on perspective and supervision from both ends - experimental and computational - and suits students with degrees in molecular biology, biochemistry, mathematics, bioinformatics or any related areas. If you have a passion for epigenetics, bioinformatics, developmental biology, mathematics, sequence analysis, gene regulation, RNA biology, mechanobiology, protein biochemistry, stem cells and differentiation, statistics, molecular evolution or biophysics and want to work at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics or the Freie Universität Berlin - this is the program for you!
Our lab members are off to cool new jobs (including faculty 🎉) so we are looking for new team members. Experimental postdoc prioritized, but do get in touch if you think you are a good fit.
Also, our PhD program is currently accepting applications: www.molgen.mpg.de/IMPRS/applic...
