Two approaches to snow. Skinny tires that punch through, or wider tires that float. I’ve had ok results with skinny, poor luck with 43mm gravel tires, but I’ve never had a bike that can handle tires wider than 2”. My next purchase will be a bike that can handle 2.5” or wider

I use a spare wheelset, so it’s pretty easy to swap them. My main use case is basically conditions like we have now. No snow on the pavement, but with icy patches and refreeze. I will not go out in conditions where the cars are sliding around.

“Properly cleared bike lane” is not something I have ever experienced in the KC area. I used to be pretty bold on the slick spots, but it cost me a couple of hard falls. For the last 10 years or so I have been using studded tires. They aren’t the most pleasant to ride on, but they do work well.

I did some crazy distance cycling back when I was younger, but Forester always rubbed me the wrong way on just about everything. He was the reason that local clubs were unsupportive of trails and bike lanes when input was requested, and those attitudes persist in many of my older cycling friends.

I should check this out. I read Hitchhikers Guide while trekking around Nepal ~25 years ago. Strange book in a strange land, it somehow had a big impact on me, in a positive way. It also generated a lot of strange dreams.

If there are no charges on the driver for this, what is even the point of having a pedestrian crosswalk? Watch the video, this child was struck in the far lane after getting almost across. So, of course they are considering citing the pedestrian.

I had a friend growing up who would take his ball and go home whenever he didn't get his way. I guess he was a great dealmaker, just like Trump.

Me: I'm inconsistent. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger.

Dr: Not how this works. Every single time you get it it does some damage. Why do that?

Me: I haven't missed a flu (or covid) shot since then.
