In early May 2020, news reports revealed that President Donald Trump's administration was using an epidemic model developed by White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett as part of its pandemic as part of its assessment and response. This model predicted that COVID-19 cases would drop to zero in as few as 10 days. What expertise in epidemic analvsis did Hassett have? Little to none. Like the IHME model, this prediction was not based on trying to ascertain the way that SARS- CoV-2 was spreading between individuals or how different reactions to lockdowns might change the future course of the epidemic. Instead. Hassett's epidemic model consisted of taking recent case data and fiting the data to a "cubic' function using the built-in function in an Excel spreadsheet.

‪Doctors say that vaccines protect children from dangerous diseases. A nepo baby who barbecues dogs and snorts cocaine off toilet seats says that vaccines make children vulnerable to 5G radiation. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

hello and welcome to the political genius exam. here is question one. which is a more compelling message:

- the president is sending armies to occupy cities and kidnap and kill people and your town could be next
- a meal at the cheesecake factory that previously cost $100 now costs $104.9

In class, I give an example of flipping a light switch, and ask whether this causes the light to turn on. To those who say yes, I point out that the bulb may be burnt out, or maybe there’s a power failure. I then ask whether light switches are still a cause of lights turning on. Most say “no”.

A lot of people seem to have trouble with the idea that “cause” does not mean “the one and only thing that explains the totality of this phenomenon”.

It bears repeating that Tom Homan is a fucking psycho and Greg Bovino's exile means functionally nothing when it comes to what's happening on the ground in Minnesota.

Where it gets really interesting, is that while 12.5 % of the Irish population died during the Great Famine, less than 1% of the Belgian population did. Why? As soon as the failure of the potato harvest became clear, the Belgian government abolished all import tariffs on foodstuffs. The government/

These numbers are all the more shocking when you realize that the overall youth suicide rate in the UK *declined* during the same period of time.

I was invited to the survey, took a look at the first set of questions—all about the novelty of a particular study—and thought, “why does this still drive funding policy?” I then closed the browser tab and moved on with my life.

Homeless Oregon youth got $1,000 a month for two years. Most found housing after • Oregon Capital Chronicle Oregon is the second of its kind in the nation to implement the direct cash transfer program after New York City.

"By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed."

A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.

Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.

Epstein’s economic power among academics was made possible by a capitalist system that makes higher education dependent on the charity economy rather than a public good supported by taxing the rich

Also willing to accept, given how often the words "class and "classy" show up, that RT doesn't have the best verification process for its Verified Audience reviews. So maybe also "today in falsification bias"? 🤷

The presentation of the Cass report as this gospel text is also disingenuous given the significant academic criticism it has received.

Just last year, a peer-reviewed critique led by Irish researchers from the University of Galway found serious flaws with the report.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com
