Iโm glad Iโm not the only one who reads all written content on the internet with a dose of A.I. paranoia; author Sam Kriss hits the nail on the head here.

And that one seat was a strong pro-housing candidateโs campaign I worked hard on. Iโm not even mad: we closed the 7% gap from the Primary.
The incumbent won, but itโs not a mandate when he won by ~3.5%, maybe less when the votes are done being tallied.
Remember to vote early next time!
Who says local politics are boring?
Kirkland City Councilโs races flipped over the weekend from 3/4 seats going to NIMBY candidates to now just 1/4!
It will be wonderful to maintain a majority that cares about the future of Kirkland for everyone, even those whose voices arenโt โin the roomโ.
Itโs definitely not a mandate anymore, either! ๐ช

06.11.2025 06:06 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0One anti-housing candidate cleared in Kirkland (beat out my candidate), an two other anti-housing candidates are winning by a tight margin. The NIMBYs played dirty this cycle. Itโs so disappointing for our community.

Not in my town. Ugh. Weโre supposedly so โprogressiveโ but that stops when weโre talking housing and transportation.
NIMBYs shoved their own candidates into the race and flooded the zone with conspiracy theories, lies, and fear mongering.
The struggle for equity and social justice continues.
Same with two of the Kirkland City Council races against NIMBY opponents! The pro-housing candidates are behind but just by fractions. Weโre only 22% into the vote count for the city and pro-housing folks return their ballots later in the election cycle. ๐ค

Thank you for covering this. The anti-housing slate uses all of the right buzzwords to try to capture the majority of voters, but the truth is that they were forged in the reactionary & hostile aftermath to the Comp Plan.
I hope Kirkland voters donโt fall for their rhetoric.
Next week's council elections in Kirkland really do deserve more regional attention. An anti-growth advocacy group is promoting a full slate of candidates who are pledging to "protect neighborhoods."
The outcome could tip the city in a very reactionary direction.

I rely on the โhuman voiceโ in copy to get a sense of the person, company, or organization over the internet. Copy that relies heavily on A.I. strips it of human identity.
A.I. copy is making the internet feel even more isolated and lonely than it was before.
I wonder how much content I read over the internet (email newsletters, product descriptions, podcast summaries, corporate website copy, etc.) is mostly A.I. authored now.
I can easily spot some of it, and other copy is less obviousโI only know because it isnโt in their typical voice.
It seems that these were major selling points. ๐คฎ

I know everyone is probably tired of hearing this, but Japanโs streets/transportation/land use is pretty great.
Every street that is not an arterial is a shared street, where folks ride and walk in the middle and make way for the occasional car.

This extrovert is going to have serious withdrawals when the election is over and I canโt canvass for another year or two.
Itโs been a wonderful, positive experience. Sign me up for next year! ๐ฉท
