Whatever their motives for joining, whatever capacity they served in, they signed up and took an oath to defend our Constitution, to defend us from enemies foreign and domestic. They signed up knowing what it could cost them and the people who loved them. I don’t pretend they were saints /4

Drink with, rather than the “policy wonk” with experience. With a nation easily manipulated to hate rather than to question how the proposed “solution” would work in reality.

But it would not be directed at the service members or their families. /3

Even then, immensely grateful that my Marine was not among the fallen, I couldn’t imagine how I would get past that anger to truly grieve if anything happened to him.
