If I ever run into Tony Hawk in the wild, I'm going to say:
βHey... are you?? Do you know who you look like? Do people ever say you look just like...
...Ralph Macchio?"
βHelsinki hasnβt registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past yearβ¦Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a carβs speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinkiβs residential areas and city center in 2021.β

Each morning I wake up, take a hot shower, make coffee, and open my laptop to Al Jazeera, hoping that it will NOT be this news.
Goddamnit.
It would be so much better if at least it were funny.
Like, I sneeze and the lamp says "gesundheit".
I recommend trying "As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride" by Cary Elwes.
He does a wonderful job narrating, and there are guest appearances by most of the rest of the major cast, reading the parts they had contributed to the book.
Plus it's a good story!
I see the military industrial complex continues to make wealthy contractors even more wealthy, while the service members get treated to... this.
In the army they say that shit rolls downhill. But there are no hills in the ocean, so it rolls in every direction but up as the ship hits each new wave.
It was going to be 2 but I have failed to properly stock the kitchen, no sandwiches of any kind will be made today.

Dr Tam also spoke about Einstein's interest in US Civil Rights, and his visit to Lincoln University, an HBCU, where he took questions from students and accepted an honorary degree.
I learned a lot from that one talk.
About 7 years ago I was at a regional conference for physics educators, Dr Francis Tam gave a talk on how Einstein's likeness had been completely commercialized beyond the control of his estate. It was a bit shocking to realize how often we see his likeness on shirts, ties, posters, etc.

Because in 2012, a US District Court ruled that New Jersey common law postmortem publicity rights endure for no more than 50 years after a personβs death. Because Einstein died in 1955, the Courtβs ruling means that Einsteinβs publicity rights are now in the public domain.

I was just talking about that movie today. The fact that the USMC phrase "unit, corps, god, country" is not dissected in the movie.
It's pretty bad to have a military unit that says duty to the country comes in 4th place.
Oh, and it's really bad that people miss that Jessup is the villain.

I watched the student enter 3 Γ· 2 and the calculator told them the answer was 2. They tried a couple of other examples, and it sure did look like it was set to round the answer to 1 sig fig.
He ended up finding the little "reset device" hole and sticking a straightened paperclip in there, ta-da!
Student taking a test: βHey Sterlace, how do you make a calculator stop rounding the answers?β
Me: βI love math jokes. I donβt know, how do you make a calculator stop rounding the answers?β
This might go over better when spoken rather than written.
