It's hard to live in a city that continually insists on making itself worse.

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.

The paywalls I keep hitting on all news outlets are giving me a real crawling-up-the-walls, cabin fever energy.

Is Wicked the most commercially successful work of fanfiction of all time?
