I know. I get frustrated by paywalls too. But it costs $$$$ to produce news. I was lucky I worked for a "home-owned" paper with a kind owner. But lots of corporate-owned papers, if pressured to tear down the paywall, would make up for it by cutting staff and/or salaries.

I don't know if I can say "usually." No shortage though. (I covered New Mexico politics, which is dominated by Dems, so many of the critical articles were about Dems.)

As a retired politics reporter, it never ceased to amaze me how many randos on social media knew more about how I should do my job than me
