Really sad news. Hans worked on an incredible diversity of vertebrate groups but in particular made huge contributions to our understanding of the Triassic.

23.02.2026 08:41 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hereโs a pangolin I was lucky enough to walk with in the wild, from a few years back at Tswalu in South Africa #WorldPangolinDay
21.02.2026 10:34 โ ๐ 29 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I mean, Iโm available if required. I could also provide much needed coaching in how to sing the anthems in time and in tune โฆ
20.02.2026 15:33 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Not sure if their merch team took that opportunity โฆ
20.02.2026 14:22 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A new bit of essential merchandise arrived in the office in time for #FossilFriday - though not sure who @england-rugby.bsky.social use as their dino specialist ๐ฆ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ๐

Cover of new, 2026 edition of Dinosaurs: How They Lived & Evolved.
An advance personal copy has arrived: a 10th anniversary, 4th edition of #Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved, my
@nhm-london.bsky.social book with @profpaulbarrett.bsky.social. New sections on the book's ancestry, on dinosaur brains, intelligence, macroecology and more, plus LOADS of new art...
Itโs def one of my fave sauropods, I was lucky enough to look at the specimens in Argentina with Josรฉ Bonaparte and R McNeill Alexander for company!
18.02.2026 12:03 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Just got my hot-off-the-press copy of the new edition of Dinosaurs: How They Lived and Evolved, written by @tetzoo.bsky.social and yours truly, with gorgeous new cover art from @bobnichollsart.bsky.social: finally, a sauropodomorph on the cover ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ On sale soon!
18.02.2026 11:13 โ ๐ 219 ๐ 59 ๐ฌ 8 ๐ 4Interesting stuff, though sorry to see that the authors ignore the fact I made a similar suggestion in a paper I published in 2000, suggesting that omnivory primitive for a range of coelurosaurs (though not deinonychosaurs). Paper was cited for other reasons so odd they ignored this aspect of it โฆ
16.02.2026 11:05 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Second and final Xmas Lego gift unlocked: pretty good, even has an occipital condyle and epoccipitals. The palaeontologist prob not to scale, however, unless this was the largest #Triceratops ever
15.02.2026 13:30 โ ๐ 30 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Well, the week ended in better fashion. One paper resubmitted, comment sent back on another and a quick drink to help celebrate @zehughes.bsky.social milestone birthday โฆ Oh, and the pistachio / chocolate croissants at Gailโs are a definite hit
13.02.2026 19:14 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You can tell itโs not been the best of weeks (paper rejection, grant rejection, awkward meetings, family medical emergency) when a highlight was seeing a photogrammetric model of my lower dentition (made to assess tooth damage, due to nocturnal grinding, caused by similar issues to above)
13.02.2026 10:11 โ ๐ 21 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Finally managed to get to one of my Xmas presents last weekend โฆ a few hours of much needed downtime

27.01.2026 19:40 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Vulcanodon is one of the earliest sauropods but itโs named for the shape of several theropod teeth referred in error to the type, as they were found in association with the skeleton (at a time when many โprosauropodsโ were considered carnivores). Enjoy ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฟ๐ผ
