Still a Good Duck

Just a duck trying to learn about its #ADHD and laughing at itself along the way. Inspired by “ADHD Explained by Ducks” on YouTube.

On the left, a wire wastebasket full of uprooted succulent plants. To its right, a white ceramic pot with a dwarf pomegranate bonsai tree.

Duck goes outside to set up the drying rack for her wet laundry. 30 minutes later, Duck is back inside and remembers the laundry. The rack still isn’t up, but she got all of the succulents out of the pomegranate’s pot and cleaned the bonsai tools. 🤭

Duck opens the fridge and sees the whole cooked potatoes she needed to cut up 2 days ago. Duck starts looking for a knife and a bowl.

An hour later, the potatoes are still whole and Duck’s in the middle of an unplanned, decade-overdue reorganization of the cookware. 🤪

The vital part is that you SEE it. Denial can be such a part of it, especially if you were diagnosed late (like I was). Knowing how and why it impairs you can at least help you not beat yourself up for it. 🫶

Sometimes I feel like ADHD peeps really need to live in groups to support each other.

Duck forgot where she left the coffee she never finished. Duck goes off to look for it.

10 minutes later, Duck flaps back to the kitchen to show Mr. Duck the cool fare tokens she just found looking through her late mother duck’s stuff!

Still flappin’! 😂

Duck has a “funny” story about how bad ADHD can be.

Duck was diagnosed with ADHD-C in middle age because she couldn’t focus at work and knew something was wrong... and then she forgot she’d been diagnosed until she went to get diagnosed 10 years later, in 2023.

Still flapping! 😂

Older women with ADHD: How the lost generation got found A renowned psychologist explains why many older women with ADHD go undiagnosed — and why getting treatment and help is important at any age.

If you’re in perimenopause, it might get even easier once you’re fully in menopause. Estrogen can work as a neurotransmitter and when we lose it, things go nuts for a while. :( Finding the right meds for you, like you did, is awesome!

Duck diagnosed a nurse yesterday after only a few minutes with her. She checked all of the boxes for the “Lost Generation” (like Duck) of women who were overlooked because “only boys can have ADHD.”

Ducks can tell when we meet another duck. Finally a match for our duck energy!

Duck wakes up and remembers it didn’t put the French Onion soup away last night. Duck goes to get plastic bowls to put the soup away. Duck begins to organize the many mason jars in its nest.

Duck realizes, lols at itself, and starts a BlueSky account. Soup still out.

Still a good duck!
