Growing up gay in a small town, I always knew I was different — sensitive, shy, nerdy, and made to feel less than by my peers. I grew up hearing stories of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, terrified I’d end up like those men — scared, sick, and shunned. In med school, I read And the Band Played On. It showed me how queer communities fought to live openly and unapologetically — to love who we love, and demand dignity and healthcare. I wanted to build a more just world, so I went into public health. Working at CDC was my dream come true. But now, Vought, Trump, and RFKJ are gutting the systems that keep us safe — including the HIV division born from those darkest days. The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is a full-on assault on LGBTQ+ dignity, especially trans folks. This isn’t just an attack on public health — it’s an attack on our humanity and right to exist. No matter how hard the bullies try, public health fights for every person’s dignity, safety, and right to live fully. That’s why I joined altCDC. And I won't stop pushing for what I know is right. It’s time to channel our rage and the power of our ancestors — and rise up.

On February 11, it was announced that PBS was shuttering its DEI office following an EO from Trumpf. Additionally, PBS pulled LGBTQ history videos from its website. PBS has stood as a beacon of truth and reason for decades and we fear that it is quickly dissolving from its purpose and mission.
