Your voice is what we want to hear in your writing. Every time you quote, you are literally handing over your voice to someone else. Is that a person we REALLY need to hear from? In qualitative evidence, often yes. In your lit review or theory section? Almost certainly not! Those are YOURS!

I'd almost rather have that. We don't have a date yet and without a date we can't sign on a house and can't pack up what's going to storage and can't plan for what we can reasonably eat in 5..or 6...or 7...or maybe even 9 weeks.

Perilously low supplies include mayo, salad dressing, beef base, and tahini.
This is putting a serious crimp in my cooking style!

Yeah. 2 in my immediate circle (one due to an e-board change). Everything I see says it's MUCH tougher to publish now than 10 years ago. I seem to recall much more editorial decision-making after an R&R, with less second-round review that opens doors to more edit requests.

I still have 6 weeks until I move. I am now out of sambal, sriracha, dijon mustard, and gluten-free panko.
And now the kitchen conundrums start: What should I buy and open knowing that I'll be leaving before I can finish it??

I very much appreciate that info. No one I have is working with the APSR right now, though several have expressed a sense that the number and extent of rounds make it infeasible for them. It's good to have more accurate info to relay. The 3x cases that I mentioned are both second tier journals.

AND a request for a third set of comments from her on someone else's paper at a different journal. I'd be very curious whether, overall, articles go through more rounds of review now than they did a few years ago. It certainly seems like an increase in the decade I've done coaching & editing.

That is interesting, as I don't think that's the perception of anyone I work with who's interacted with the APSR lately. One client currently has both her third set of reviewer notes (not APSR) - which are still requesting big changes, including one proposing to go from a full art to a letter -

Thank you! I'm hearing way too many folks going 3 rounds and getting rejected lately. I don't think I've had a client get a paper in with only one round in ... probably 2 years? (at least of the ones I know of)

Cheese science, but also pairing suggestions that are immediately available. Mainstream wine varietals and jams/spreads/crackers, etc. Sure, this cheese would go great with a hint of honeysuckle and a rare Japanese fruit. Would it also go great with a Barefoot merlot and a kiwi?

Question for pol sci: Has ANYONE managed to get an article accepted with only one round of R&R in the last couple years?
If so, do you mind telling me what journal?

Could be something that's been rejected a couple times, something that doesn't quite feel like it fits anywhere obvious, something interdisciplinary or otherwise quirky... Happy to share attributed or unattributed as you prefer. leanne@leannecpowner.com

Hey political science/international relations folks: Does anyone have an article they're struggling to find a placement for? I'm doing an activity with a class this week where they have to propose a journal for an abstract that I give them. I'm happy to workshop actual abstracts - DM or email me!

Self-Care Saturday! Give yourself a good long soak this weekend, or if you don't have a tub, a long shower. An inexpensive shower steamer or bath bomb (yes, they even come in guy-friendly scents!) will make it feel like a nice indulgence!

Ah. From the fact that you used a hashtag for it, I thought you were a scholar of that topic who posted about it regularly. :-)

Cool! Do you do stairs from elsewhere too? Pittsburgh PA (USA) has some wild ones on hillsides that are actually considered streets (so that the city maintains them). They were used by mill workers who lived on the hillside to get down to work on the riverbank

I've had errand day planned as today for two weeks now.
What happened to the forecast two days ago? IT CHANGED TO RAIN. ALL FRIGGING DAY.
Gaaah.

You can do more in a short period of time than you think you can. Put on ONE song on your playlist to delete email. ONE song to declutter your desk. ONE song to open your writing file & find your place. You can do it!

I know there's such a thing as "girl dinner."
Do we have "girl lunch" too? I've had my 3rd cup of 'morning' tea (2 hrs late), a handful of peanut butter M&Ms, a slice of homemade bread, & a cup of applesauce.
That's a good meal, right? caffeine, chocolate, carbs, & a bit of gratuitous 'healthy'?
